What kinds are there?

We are happy to say that there are many different options in your price range when shopping for the cheapest refrigerator at Home Depot. Here's a simple break down of the styles of refrigerators and their price ranges:

Frigidaire Top Freezer Refrigerator

The most basic and least expensive full-sized model will always be a top-freezer refrigerator.

This is the perfect fridge for someone on a tight budget or possibly even looking to save space in their kitchen. While they can offer a great deal of storage space, they can come with adjustable shelves, as well as dedicated freezer space so that you can keep your fresh food from smelling like your freezer.

In all honestly, this model is your cheapest option for Home Depot refrigerators. This style has two compartments, one on top and one on bottom — with the freezer above the refrigerator.

Top-freezer models are great for smaller kitchens because they don’t take up much space while still fitting a decent amount of food inside.

$$: These models typically range from $400 and $700.

This style of refrigerator is truly our favorite but only works for you if you’re willing to spend a bit more.

It allows you to have the frozen food on the bottom and makes it easy to find your fresh food items in the fridge above.

While they are definitely more expensive, the convenience they offer is huge compared to a top-freezer models. There's nothing like having your fresh food at eye level and within easy reach.

$$: Depending on how much food it holds and the bells and whistles, prices range from $600 to $2,000+.

  • Side-by-Side Refrigerators:

This refrigerator option is great for those that want to have both fresh food and freezer items at eye level.

This style is perfect for those who need lots of shelf space and tend to stock up on groceries in bulk. Though not ideal if you tend to buy larger frozen items like pizza.

This style of refrigerator has two separate side-by-side compartments.  Both doors can be opened at the same time giving you an easy view at what is in both your fridge and freezer.

This model tends to be kept neater as you can see the mess (and fix it) easier.

$$: Prices range from $800 to $1,500, depending on its features and size.

Compact Refrigerator Homepage

For those with limited budget options, compact refrigerators are a great choice. While they definitely don't have the storage capacity of a full size fridge their price point is quite low. They fit snugly into tight spaces or bar areas — ideal for small apartments or dorm rooms.

$$: Compact units range from cheap mini-fridges, costing about $150-$250, to slightly larger models, ranging from $250-$450.

RefrigeratorPro Tip: In case these inexpensive fridges don't fit what you're looking for don't give up. Home Depot also offers high-end models made by well-known brands like LG, GE, and Samsung. The higher your price, the more specialized features you'll find like  built-in water dispensers or ice makers. Just remember, steeper price tags come with more bells and whistle—starting at $2,000 or more!

Which One is Right For Me?

We know the reason why you even found this page was because you wanted to find the cheapest refrigerator possible at Home Depot but let's take just a minute to make sure you end up with the right one for your needs.

Regardless of the price we would like you to think about a few things besides just the price. No one wants a 'cheap' fridge that doesn't work for them.

You'll want to consider these items as well:

  • Size:
This can be the height, width and/or depth but also how much storage space does it have inside of it. Buying a cheap refrigerator without enough space will have you going to the market more often then you'd like or having to cram everything you buy into too small of a space.

  • Energy efficiency rating:
Yes this is something you will definitely want to take a look at if you're looking to save $$. Remember that a fridge costs you money each month as well as when you buy it. Check to make sure the model you buy is energy efficient and it will not only save you money each month, you might also end up with a local or government rebate!

  • Noise level:
Often we hear from people who are miserable with how loud their inexpensive refrigerator is. Sure you're saving money but when the fridge is made they will actually skimp on what they put in it and that includes sound proofing.

Make sure to look at the decibel level on the tag in the store before buying anything.

  • Warranty:
It's always a great idea to know how long your warranty on a new appliance is and what it covers. That way if anything goes wrong you can go back and have any repairs or replacements paid for instead of coming out of your own pocket.

A Few Options

Our guess is that you're here because you're on a budget and need a new refrigerator. If that's the case, no worry. Here are a few options worth considering:

  1. Whirlpool 14-cubic-foot Top Freezer Refrigerator:
This option is very basic but it comes with a few features and is perfect for small spaces and kitchens. Just know that 14 cu. ft. of storage will only hold food for 1-2 people. It's also the least expensive of the models that Home Depot carries.

  2. Frigidaire 18.2-cubic-foot Top Freezer Refrigerator:
This model is slightly more expensive but offers almost double the storage space of the Whirlpool unit. It also has adjustable glass shelves, humidity controls, and LED lighting.

RefrigeratorPRO Tip: Spend a bit more on the glass shelves. Having wire shelves may not seem like a big deal but they cause many problems! We can't stress the importance of spending to get the glass options.

  3. LG 21-cubic-foot Top Freezer Refrigerator:
This option is the most expensive out of these 3 but comes with extra features like an ice maker, extra door storage, and spill-proof shelves. Plus it comes with a reversible door to change it to fit your space.
