FIRE HAZARD: Kitchenaid French Door Refrigerator Review (20 cu. ft. size)

by Ralph J.
(Fort Mill, SC)

We felt it was necessary to write this Kitchenaid refrigerator review because after only six years of ownership (expired warranty) it became a true FIRE HAZARD. The starter relay caught fire, smoked up the house and welded the compressor contacts to the compressor.

As you can imagine, the fridge is toast. So much for unsurpassed quality.

Sadly enough we've learned that we are not the only ones who have experienced this problem and Kitchenaid has known about this for years and has done nothing about it.

We have replaced it with a GE Profile. Kitchenaid may make some good stuff but fridges are not one of them.

We owned a Whirlpool refrigerator prior to buying the Kitchenaid. After that experience, Whirlpool was not one of our choices.

Our Kitchenaid Refigerator Caught Fire NEW
by: Bill Nelson

Our Kitchenaid refrigerator model # KSRS25IKBL01 caught fire. We were home when it occurred and threw the main breaker. (Major problems with Kitchenaid oven and microwave combination also) Last Kitchenaid product we will ever buy.

KitchenAid KSF26C4XY 26.4 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator NEW
by: Anonymous

We just had the same issue with our Kitchenaid. On fire. We just happened to be in the kitchen when it happened. If we weren't there would have been substantial damage to the kitchen, if not the house. As an aside, the blade of my Kitchenaid food processor snapped off while I was making breadcrumbs (with fresh bread, not even dried bread!) and flew through the container. It could have killed someone. I will never buy Kitchenaid again.

Do Not Mess Around with this!

Refrigerator malfunctioned while we were gone. Torched the entire kitchen with heavy smoke damage all throughout the house. If anyone had been home would likely have been trapped on upper levels. Entire house will need renovated.

Will be contacting an attorney

Our model ksf26c6xyy with serial # hr14147725 had an electrical arc and it is ruined. If we had not been at home, we would have lost the house. Will never purchase any brand/s associated with Kitchen Aid again. Be aware!

Kitchenaid Refrig Fire
by: Anonymous

Our Kitchenaid refrig recently caught fire while in our garage. The fire spread and we lost everything in our garage and our nearby mudroom.

Heavy smoke damage throughout our house also occurred. We are thankful that a house guest woke up to smell the smoke and call 911. We hate to think of what could have happened.

The entire refrig was burnt, it looked as though the fire started in the refrigerator area. It was not electrical b/c the plug and electrical outlet were still intact.

This fire started inside the refrig.

The refrig was about 10-12 years old and was working fine. It was a 22 cu. ft with serial numbers starting with a K.

The fire investigator took the refrig to further investigate the exact cause.

Kitchen Aid Appliances are JUNK!!!!
by: Anonymous

Bought a complete Kitchen Aid appliances ensemble from Kitchen Aid two and a half years ago.

The side by side built in refrigerator just died. The compressor, two circuit boards and a fan were toast.

In home service and Kitchen Aid response to this major failure is abysmal.

Service replaced everything else (at my cost) before finally realizing compressor which was making a noise was dead. They covered the compressor under warranty but refuse to recognize that it probably caused the other parts to malfunction.

I'll never buy another Whirlpool product and hope you don't either!!!!
