What is the difference between stainless steel refrigerators and monochromatic stainless steel refrigerators? I am purchasing a refrigerator at AJ Madison and I would like to make the right decision.

Monochromatic steel meaning
by: Anonymous

Monochromatic Stainless Steel means that the trim of the fridge is not stainless steal. It's a different metal that is colored to match the stainless steal unit. The unit itself is still stainless.

Lead in Stainless
by: Anonymous

What a silly comment. Lead is a nonferrous metal, it is not magnetic and would not be used in kitchens on a refer door. It is not acceptable in any potable water fittings so why would it be used where a child could lick it.

monochromatic is a ""Color""
by: Anonymous

the definition of Monochromatic is one color/hue of metal. Meaning there are no variations in the look of the stainless. In Stainless Steel, you will find that there are different grades of stainless, those that contain a large portion of lead and those that are of a higher steel content. You can use a magnet to determine which is a higher grade from a lower grade of stainless. If a magnet sticks to the metal, you have a low grade of stainless with a high yield of lead in it. If the magnet does not stick, then you have a high grade of steel content as opposed to lead.

Question and Answer:
by: Anonymous

Question: Is monochromatic stainless steel magnetized? Will magnets stick to it?

Answer: Monochromatic stainless steel is more of a design term meaning that everything on the outside of the fridge is either stainless steel or gray. There are no parts that are black (e.g. ice/water dispenser, kick plate, sides or back).

Though in response to your question, true stainless steel is NOT MAGNETIC and no magnets will stick to it.

Monochromatic Stainless Steel is...
by: HeidiPro

Monochromatic stainless steel is the same as regular stainless steel on most refrigerators.

Though on some brands like KitchenAid the only difference is in their body and dispensers.

A monochromatic model will have a gray body and dispenser while the regular stainless steel refrigerator has a black body and dispenser.

Otherwise they are identical in every way including how much they fingerprint.

The real question is do you want it to all be silver/gray or do you prefer black on the front for an ice/water dispenser and on the sides?
