Who Makes a French Door Bottom Freezer Shorter Than 69"?

I only have 68" in height from floor to the bottom of my cabinet. I want a french door / bottom freezer refrigerator that will fit in the space.

Renovation is not in my near future to remove or replace cabinets. I can't find any of that style shorter than 69". Also, it seems this style is very deep, up to 36". My current refrigerator is only 32" deep, and already sticks our further than our cabinets. There is no way 36" would work, that's too much space to lose.

I don't need a large refrigerator, max 20 cu. ft. Where can I find a smaller french door bottom freezer refrigerator?

I also don't need anything but white in color.

I found a French door counter-depth fridge. It is by Frigidaire model number FRFG1723AV.

They had four in stock, and will be delivered this coming week. The height is 67 9/10 tall.

The salesman they we worked with wasn’t even aware that this model was even available until I showed him the model number.

What a perfect fit doesn't take into consideration is the minimum two-inch air clearance required between the top of the fridge and the cabinet. That was our solution until I spoke with them.

The issue is the space where the refrigerator goes isn’t tall enough. In our case, the easiest remedy was to remove the 20 screws holding that short cabinet above the refrigerator and take it out.

Now we can buy any height refrigerator we want. If a later date someone else needs to buy a new refrigerator they too will have the ability to choose whichever one they prefer.

We did find a 27.8 in.³ Samsung refrigerator at Home Depot for a very reasonable price. check it out here.

I will either find a salvaged cabinet that matches the ones I’ve got, or I will have a cabinet maker build me one.

Secondhand stores specialize in removed household components, and generally, the prices are quite reasonable.

I can't believe the trouble I am having trying to find a frig that fits in this space. We've had the same Amana panaled refrigerator that matches our cabinets for 28 years! We wanted to replace it but I can't find anything to fit. All the refrigerators I've looked at that say 68 actually need 70 inches for ventilation. It's 2021 and I would think that there would be more sizes.

Has anyone found a frig that is less that 68 inches tall, 36 inches wide and 28 inches DEEP!
I guess I will keep looking.

Both Samsung and LG have French door refrigerator models below or right at 68".

(Here's one from Samsung.)

Consumer Reports rated several of Samsung and LG as reliable and highly rated. Despite this, Samsung and LG have had numerous complaints and a couple of class-action lawsuits.

To offset this bad publicity, Samsung extended its warranty on the sealed system (compressor, coils, etc.) from 5 to 10 years. LG also has a 10-year warranty on the expensive-to-repair sealed system.

Our Samsung 6-year-old model bought in 2015 sprung a leak in the sealed system just after the 5-year warranty expired. Repair estimate ($150 to diagnose), $300 labor, $650 parts with one year warranty. We bought a new French door LG at Home Depot on sale for $1,618 with a 10-year warranty.
Check whether the warranty covers parts AND labor.

I too am looking for the same. I need 68". Would love stainless steel. If anyone finds something please be sure to include the make and model. When I do find one that would make it, if I trim off the cabinets (which I'm willing to do) it's so deep it takes up half the kitchen.

Appliance makers - please hear our pleas!!!!

Been looking for a year and it seems impossible to find something at 67-68" height, 33-36" wide, counter depth, french door. The rare ones that are short enough, are either too deep, or only 30" wide so I'd have a lot of wasted space on the sides.

We have the same problem getting this type of refrigerator to fit under the cabinets. Check out Maytag MFI2570FEZ height to top 68.68. French door bottom freezer outside ice dispenser.

Looking for side by side, ice in the door fridg, that could fit a 68 inch high opening. Like so many other folks here!
Looks like Whirlpool LSXS22423S could work. It's just a bit taller than 65" which would allow for extra ventilation. Plus it's a great deal!

Fisher & Paykel is only in California. The maximum height for mine is 68". They have one that will fit but no one in Mississippi sells them according to their map

I have the same problem. I have found that in order to keep the flat of the fridge aligned to the cabinets and wall I can't fit 36" wide even though the fridge is counter depth; just 33"or less. Not many choices unfortunately.

I have a 36 x 70 opening and want a new frig. I thought I had some good candiates (bosch in particular) until they decided the proper frig height is 72 inches! (Only to add insult to injury, I order a shorter Bosch (2019 model) but weeks later it appears to be discontinued, and I don't expect it will ever arrive. Two delivery dates have gone up in smoke. Bosch already played that trick on me with a dishwasher and 8 weeks later I still don't have my full refund from the seller. (Item discontinued.)

While some frigs seem to fit, once you read the spacing requirements for ventilation, which you should do, you will find most will not. I now hate Bosch and most other appliance makers. Todays appliances do not seem to last and are built to require a remodel of your entire kitchen!
Well folks, I have an enormous kitchen and it's hell to find something to fit! Here I thought homes were shrinking in size.

My current frig is 25 years and still running. Appliance deals seem to think you're lucky to get 7 years from a new frig. We should all be outraged! Anybody want to start a new high quality appliance company!

Anybody with the same problem or a good solution?

I'm looking for a black French door with water dispenser refrigerator that fits 33 inches wide, and 66 feet tall. Samsung has one that fits 33 inch wide but is slightly to tall be 2 inches. Does anyone have a suggestion? That doesn't include removing cabinets.

Not even sure if my stacked cabinets could be refigured, but not up for remodel.

Opening is 36" width, by 68.625" height.
I need 1" gap at top for air circulation, and want max cubic feet.

Why don't manufacturers offer height choice?
Not at all happy. Hoping marketplace void gets addressed.

And will be checking back here, in case someone else does find suitable unit.

As previously posted, this frig fits a small space with dimensions of 68.5 Hx29.5Wx34 5/8 D. Have had since 2015 & think this a very poor product. Makes a ton of noise since purchase & now making an intermittent screeching noise. Replaced one fan which did not correct the intermittent screeching noise & now have a 2nd fan on order all to the tune of $300.

I also do not like the layout of the frig compartment and the plastic used is very flimsy. A lot of the freezer compartment is taken up by the ice tray and it is difficult to keep anything in the freezer organized, the lower bins are just that, big bins where things get lost. This is 1st french door frig for me but think I will look at the LG side by side, may work better for me. At any rate, would not advise buying this model whirlpool.

We have a Whirlpool which is the only brand that fitted in our LESS than 68" space, only five years old, crapping out, always made tons of noise and we have an extended warranty and no one can come out to fix till FRIDAY, today is Monday! NEED another brand to fit there. Like others, I am not doing entire kitchen reno to fit frig under cabinet.

My concern is the height and the width. I only have room for a 30" wide by 68.5" tall. Depth is not as much of an issue but it does matter. Also not sure if I have enough space to open the left french door of the whirlpool Whirlpool 30 in. W 19.7 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in Monochromatic Stainless Steel. The specs are 29.5" wide X 68.5" tall X 34.6" deep. I've also read some bad reviews of it and it doesn't have ice in the door, water only.

The only one I have located is a countertop depth Whirlpool. Mine is a two door, but they may make it in other styles. Mine has also lasted forever, but I would like to replace it. I keep looking, some others only come close to fitting my 69" space. Those would require a cabinet remodel to fit my cabinet space.

I only have 68.5 inches to my cabintes and have a very difficult time locating a side by side or a frecn door refrigerator. If I didn't know better I would say it is conspiracy to get new cabinets. I let a salesman convince me a new frig would fit but the delivery guy assured me it would not. The salesperson then suggested I shave my cabinets or raise them. Many people are in the same situation, so you think the manufacturers would consider this. I located a LG which might fit, but will not have as must storage space--guess I need to but less food. Good luck to all those on the search.

Same issue, we just found and purchased one at Lowes. Whirlpool 20.6-cu ft Counter-Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Ice Maker (Monochromatic stainless steel). ONly one we could find that fit our specs.

We bot a nice place that was built in 80s and needed to replace the fridge. The shock (we have owned other houses) to find fridge sold out there are all 70" tall. Thanks for finding the LG side by side!

We wanted the quiet, energy efficiency, and the width of 33". It fits the bill and the comments/research here saved us a ton of time! Thanks.

What is with these appliance makers today?? Many folks, like myself, have a 68" maximum height to their cabinets.

The only option in a decent new style fridge that I can find is the Samsung french door, that is 67" high,,, but it is 36" deep!
What??? My current fridge is 30" deep and 66" high. Why can I not find a decent new fridge that doesn't stick out across my kitchen(depth), and is under 68" high??? Who is doing the measurements at these appliance companies? C'mon folks, width is not everything! Get on the ball here and make a few sub 68" units!!!

I had the same problem with an opening that worked fine until I had my kitchen floor retiled and lost about a half inch. Just enough to make the fridge not fit. I solved the problem by taking the covers off the door hinges. With the fridge pushed back into the opening and only the depth of the door extending out you can hardly see the hinges.

Take a look at Jenn-Aire countertop depth - 69" overall height. Others such as Viking and AGA Marvel also have shorter cabinets under 69", but the hinge is the problem. I spent an entire day making lists of counter depth refrigerators with cabinets under 69" (Whirlpool and Frigidare are others). I am considering the Jenn-Aire (and to fit I will have to increase the 69" opening at least 1/8 inch). This really annoys me because I already had this custom cherry cabinet resized to accommodate the height increase in a refrigerator I bought 12 years ago (a Whirlpool which is 68.5"). The other option I am considering is to figure out if the hinge cap can be removed. On the AGA Marvel it looks as though the hinge cap is one inch high and without the hinge cap, it would just fit my 69" allowance.

I have the same problem. Have not found anything with the 1" clearance they want on the top. My son cut part of the
Bottom of the cabinet frame off to be able to fit a new french
Door refrig. Have to see if can do here.

I have 1950s custom cabs with 65.5" clearance. all I can find is top freezers or 10cf freezers. I can go upt 42" wide, but wider isn't shorter. So frustrating.

I would like a French door model less than 65ins tall but I can't find one. I would settle for a double door with water maker if I could find one. There is no option to remove the above cabinets as the home is a rental. Does anyone know of any brand that makes them a little shorter?

LG has a nice french door 19.7 that is about 66" high. I was told you need an inch clearance above or the manufacturer will void your warranty....they have this at best buy.

I have the same problem and also need a shorter refrigerator.

25 years ago, when my house was built, most refrigerators were shorter. I have a 20 year old 25 cu.ft. Amana that fits perfectly in the custom opening, but my recent forays into appliance departments show nothing but top freezer models and one 19 cu.ft. side by side. that will fit. None of them are high end nor have the features I want.

I think I'll have to get a cabinet maker out to remove the cabinet above the refrigerator, adding a couple hundred dollars to my expense. At least the width is OK.

I've done more than a bit of research and the only fridge that I've been able to find is this GE French door bottom freezer refrigerator:


GE GFSF2KEY 22.2 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator

It is 68 1/2" high (honestly not sure if this is enough clearance to allow for proper ventilation) and 33" deep w/o handles. It also comes with an indoor ice/water dispenser in the model below:

Both of them are currently on sale at the links above but the interesting thing is that the one with the ice and water dispenser is only around $100 more.
