We've Had Nothing But Problems With Our Whirlpool French Door Bottom Freezer (model #GI7FVCXWY02)!!

We've had nothing but problems with our Whirlpool French door bottom freezer refrigerator (model #GI7FVCXWY02)!!

We've only had it for 10 weeks and we already have a list of complaints:

  1. It was 2-3 inches taller than the side-side model that we replaced. This required us to raise the wall cabinet above the fridge. It has a box containing control mechanisms on top of the fridge.

  2. The in-door ice bin, is a neat idea but was poorly implemented. It doesn't keep the ice cold enough and the ice freezes together in a solid block making taking ice directly from the bin impossible

  3. The whole cube dispenser often just makes noise and no ice (probably because it's all frozen together -- see above).

  4. Crushed ice works OK but it is very noisy.

  5. When we open the ice bin, the sprocket of the arm that 'stirs' the ice often doesn't self-align with the mating motor sprocket requiring difficult steps to get the ice bin reinstalled.

  6. Frozen food gets buried in the bottom freezer and requires digging through everything to find what you are looking for while bending over.

We definitely can't recommend this model it has really been a huge let down.

We also want to caution those that have side-side models and are considering replacing with bottom freezer models.

Problem with 4 door Refrig/Freezer NEW
by: Anonymous

After replacing the motor controller board 3 times at a cost of $350+ dollars each we've now matched / exceeded the cost of the refrigerator if we replace it again. After the first board going bad we had the power checked in our house (new construction). We did find a major problem so assumed all was good. Nope, about a year later had some storms come through the area and it took out the board again. OK, next step. Added whole house surge protector and a specific surge protector made specifically for refrigerator. Lasted about a year and now it's out again. We're deciding whether to replace the board again or replace refrigerator. If we replace it won't be with a Whirlpool even if they gave it to me. Bad thing is we've got other Whirlpool appliances and haven't had any problems with those.

Worst purchase ever!!

Whirlpool French door 3 years old...door falling off. Just 2 adults in home! All the plastic holding the door on cell apart. Can't buy parts must but new door for 400.00! Freezer has issues with screws working loose causing the door not to close and must take door off and completely take freezer apart to tighten screw. Of course all these issues happened after warranty expired!!! So disappointed in a 2000.00 purchase. Complained to whirlpool...said call a repair man.

Power goes off....won't come back without unplugging
by: CSmith

Our Whirlpool French Door Bottom Freezer is a problem. Everytime the power goes off the motor on the fridge won't come back on until you pull it out and unplug it and then plug it in again. This is a big refrigerator. The lights come back on and we assume the it is working and by that time the ice cream is melted and the food is too warm. Does anyone know how to correct problem?
