GE Refrigerator
General Electric Refrigerators are Top Rated Refrigerators
The GE Refrigerator is just one of thousands of products that the General Electric Company has perfected over the past hundred years. The General Electric Company better known as GE, is the world's second largest corporation. With its roots going back to the days of Thomas Edison, GE was formed when Thomas Edison's the Edison General Electric Company merged in 1892 with its rival, the Thomson-Houston Electric Company.
- Fun Fact: The General Electric Company's tax return is the largest filed in the United States exclipsing some 24,000 pages!
GE is one of the most popular brands in America and is broken down into three segments. The GE (or General Electric Refrigerators), GE Profile, and GE Monogram Refrigerators. There are hundreds of models in the GE Refrigerator line which makes narrowing down your choices pretty difficult! But, the good news is, we've tested and reviewed them all and managed to find a few that are Top Rated with us and Consumers alike.
The GE Refrigerator Line: Unique Features
GE fridges have a number of unique features depending on the model and style you choose. The GE Profile and Monogram lines are truly innovative, but the GE brand itself also includes a few dynamic features. Here are a few of our favorite things about the GE fridges and fridge-freezers:
- Gallon Door Storage: It's nice when you don't have to worry about using up valuable shelf space with those gallon milk bottles. Most of the General Electric refrigerator doors have the gallon size door storage.
- LED Lighting: Like the LG Refrigerators, GE has started to implement LED lighting instead of the standard incandescent bulb. This saves on space and helps to brighten the interior of the refrigerator. Considering GE Refrigerators had one of the bulkier lighting systems (see below), it's nice to see they're switching over to an LED format.
- Durability: Because it's a GE, you can pretty much be assured that the product is of high quality and will stand the test of time.
- In Door Water Filters: The GE water filtration system was by far the leader in making the best quality tasting water and ice. It's a bulky unit, but it definitely does the job.
Things to Watch For
Although GE is definitely one of the world's top brands, we think there's still room for improvement. There were a few things we found across the board with the GE units that we felt could be improved.
- Bulky Lighting System: The interior lighting unit of most of the GE refrigerators were quite bulky and took up a lot of top shelf space. The LED units were definitely an improvement in this realm, so you may want to look for GE models that feature LED lights instead of standard incandescent bulb lighting.
- Loose Handles: Surprisingly in all of our tests, with the exception of the GE Monogram line, the handles on most of the GE models felt loose. This includes both the GE, GE Profile and even the GE Adora line that is exclusive to The Home Depot. This seems like it should be an easy fix for GE.
- Bulky Water Filters: Although the water filtration system in the GE models provided the most consistant and best tasting water and ice, the unit takes up almost a 1/4 of the top shelf space in the side by side models. GE should take a cue from LG and KitchenAid Refrigerators with their unique water filter design and In-Door Ice Maker systems.
