First I had to replace the blower motor in the fridge at 5 years old. In the end it wasn't covered by the warranty and cost me $250.
Now the repairman says we have to replace the compressor for a whopping price of $550.00.
I put all of our food in basement fridge (1964 Frigidaire) and freezer (1970 Kenmore 14 cubic ft freezer) and they still run fine!!
The wife and everybody else says we should junk it but it still looks brand new.
My wife thinks we should buy a single door bottom freezer with water and ice on the outside. Plus she's concerned it will give us more trouble.
We had a Kenmore double door that the compressor went out under warranty right at 5 years, they replaced it. Then we had it another 10-12 years and I gave it to my brother and it ran another 4-5 years for him. So putting money in a repair can work out.
I sure don't want to be shelling out $1500 every 6 years on a refrigerator.
