We had an independent repairman come out and told us it was unrepairable.
Then Maytag/Amana/Whirlpool/every brand on the flippin' market said they wouldn't do anything about it until their own guy came out and deemed it unrepairable (which we had to pay for--now $200 in).
Of course, the repairman said it could be repaired for $700--the part cost $20 but it would be extensive labor.
Needless to say now we are investigating non-Whirlpool brands for our next fridge--which leaves us with LG and Samsung (who knows if they are reliable).
Also, interior parts were cheap and the drawers never opened easily and broke within 6 months. I do like the bottom freezer though.
