I liked our four year old Amana bottom freezer refrigerator until it started LEAKING FREON recently.

We had an independent repairman come out and told us it was unrepairable.

Then Maytag/Amana/Whirlpool/every brand on the flippin' market said they wouldn't do anything about it until their guy came out and deemed it unrepairable (which we had to pay for--now $200 in).

Of course, the repairman said it could be repaired for $700--the part cost $20, but it would be extensive labor.

Needless to say now we are investigating non-Whirlpool brands for our next fridge--which leaves us with LG and Samsung (who knows if they are reliable).

Also, interior parts were cheap, and the drawers never opened easily and broke within six months. I do like the bottom freezer though.

KitchenAid expensive crap
by: Anonymous

The SAME thing has happened to our four-year-old KitchenAid French door refrigerator! Thank God we had purchased a five-year warranty, BUT we have had to have four repairmen out in the last six months, and it is just FINALLY; this repairman informed us it was low on freon! It is a flaw in their equipment! Refrigerators this age should NOT be having this issue!

a fix for refrigerant leak any fridge with this problem
by: j rasmussen

Our piece of junk, the two-year-old Whirlpool French door model WRF989SDAH00, stopped cooling. Did not purchase an extended warranty. I wish we had.

Whirlpool replaced the evaporator and dryer, which was under a five-year contract. Two days later, it stopped cooling. I called the repairman, coolant was added, and again in two days, it stopped cooling.

The AE-qualified repairman could not get to the leak/leaks; after conferring with Whirlpool, the refrigerator was deemed not"repairable." Whirlpool offered no resolution; throw it away. I discovered an excellent product while researching the problem.

A/C Leak Freeze was made especially for refrigeration systems. I bought it on Amazon. I called the AE repairman and had him recharge the design and add a partial amount of the Leak Freeze.

The refrigerator has been working great for six days now. Even runs cooler and quieter now.
We contacted Leak Freeze support for more detailed instructions, and they were accommodating, answering each email I sent within a couple of hours. Only a partial amount of Leak Freeze was used.

If you use too much, you can create a problem. So email Leak Freeze support for advice on the amount to use. I wasn't sure if Leak Freeze would work, but I figured out what we had to lose. And it worked fantastically.

It appears the new French door refrigerators have problems; even though I hate extended warranties, I suggest buying one!
