Maytag French Door Refrigerator Problems

DO NOT BUY A MAYTAG FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATOR!!

We bought one four years ago and have had a series of problems. The short list includes:

1. Doors not closing properly and requiring routine leveling
2. Water line freezing
3. Ice maker has broken several times (we opted for just using trays now)
4. Most recently the fan broke so the refrigerator did not cool.

Maytag does NOT stand behind their product and the claim for reliable and dependable appliances are in a word: FALSE.

I have made my pledge to the Maytag company that I will never buy another Maytag product. I recommend you do the same.

Maytag French Door Refrigerator

I purchased this Maytag French door refrig. in 12/06 and it worked well for a while.

Then the ice maker started freezing. They told me I needed another ice maker so I purchased another one. Soon after it too
started freezing.

They told me I need a new water valve so I replaced the water valve. It also worked well for a while, then it started icing up again. (Are you beginning to see a pattern here?)

Now the latch for the ice bin is broken and it is still freezing up.

I will never buy a Maytag appliance again. No one can fix it.

What has happened to the Maytag dependability?

Maytag Refrigerator Part Failures

Since October of 2006 my Maytag Refrigerator, model 4MFC2061HE has failed twice. Once at the 3 year mark (Oct 2009)it needed a new Keyboard Pad to control Temps. Then it was found after that part was installed that the main board/Interface board was also defective. It took 13 days downtime total for repairs.

Two years later on 9/20/2011 the refrigerator continued to run the compressor and the interior temperature was at the 32 Degree mark.

The water line inside was only gave off slushy ice water. I unplugged the refrigerator and let it come back to normal temp range.

To assist in maintaining temperatures inside I plugged it into a 24 hour automatic timer. I set the on period to 60 to 75 minutes and the off time to about 3 hours. I kept checking every few hours (even at night) to keep food in the freezer and upper fridge from spoilng.

It seems the parts are made in Mexico so who knows what kind of quality controls there are.

I am thoroughly Disgusted with this refrigerator and the problems I have had with it.

Will think long and hard about buying another Maytag Fridge.

Rust on our Maytag Refrigerator

After just 1 year and 3 months the French Door Stainless Steel refrigerator has started to rust.

The Maytag CS said nothing we can do about it. Out of warranty....

Maytag Ice Maker is a Bust

We've had out Maytag French door refrigerator for four years now and the ice maker keeps getting slower. So, we stopped using it altogether.

Maytag French Door Refrigerator Problems

We're about to have a repair man come by for the second compressor replacement in 3 years.

Fortunately we have an extended warranty but who wants to have to go through this every two or three years? We are sorely disappointed with this refrigerator.

If you close one door too hard the other opens and will not close. It has been a terrible product and they (Maytag) don't seem to want to admit it or stand behind their product beyond the 1 year warranty.

The last time the repair person warned us it was likely it would happen again. Sadly she was right.

If you don't have a warranty your money would be better spent on a new refrigerator.

Maytag Fridge

We bought Maytag fridge model MZD2665HEW five years ago. The compressor went out this past week.

This happened, of course, just a couple months past 5 year warranty. The estimated repair cost is close to $600.00. What a joke?!?!?

A refrigerator costing that much should last many years of trouble free usage. With all the problem Maytag has had, you would think they would extend their warranty to try keep customers.

Maytag Refrigerator Ice Maker Trouble/Lights Flashing/Fridge Not Cooling

Our trouble started with our Maytag Refrigerator when the ice trap door flapping open and shut on it's own--with all the display light flashing.

Called a technician (not Maytag's) and he was sure it was the control panel. He said he couldn't get another one because they were on back order.

I called Maytag. In the meantime, it quit cooling in the fridge.

Long story short--MANY calls to Maytag. On week THREE of no fridge. Maytag knows this part has caused much trouble (because they offered to pay for the part and labor outside of warranty limits). They had 880 control panels on backorder. I was told it might take a total of a month to get it in, ship it to me and get me set up with one of their techs to install it.

I bought a new Samsung today.

Door alarm not

I have a Maytag french door refrigerator and the door alarm keeps going off and the doors are closed.

We've pressed the button and turned off the alarm but it comes back on and starts beeping again.

Does anyone know how to turn the alarm off so it will not come back on?

Problems from the start

We bought a Maytag, French door/freezer on bottom in 2006.

Two days after it was delivered, the electric panel went out. They replaced the entire refrigerator.

Two years later it happened again. That time, they replaced the panel.

Now (2010) the electric panel is blinking, the ice flap is flapping and after a little research.... I believe there is a short in the electric panel.

I'm hoping I don't have a electrical fire before it can be fixed.

Refrigerator no longer cold

I bought a Maytag French Door refrigerator 4/5 years ago. It was NOT cheap (@$1,800).

Yesterday, the refrig. portion stopped cooling. I turned up the dial (to make it cooler) and a fan-sounding noise came on and ran and ran and ran....no cool air.

A repair person is coming out tomorrow and I hope it is not too expensive. A fridge costing this much should last more than 4.5 years!!

I will not buy Maytag again. I had a big problem with my Maytag washer, too.

Replaced it with a Bosch which I love! I may end up doing the same with this fridge, which I loved...until yesterday.

We Made the Same Mistake

We made the same mistake when we bought a Maytag French Door refrigerator 5.5 years ago.

So far:

The water line has frozen several times
A shelf has bowed though I've never exceeded the weight limit
And today the refrigerator section has stopped cooling

I'm thinking of replacing the refrigerator all together. All of this happened in a few years, so I expect that it should probably break down again soon.
