GE Profile Side by Side Refrig (model GSH25SGPCSS)

by Carl
(Slidell, LA)

Our GE Profile side by side refrig is 5 years old. It is not the best we have had. It's fine at keeping temperature but the ice maker is another question.

This problematic ice maker decides:

  1. When to dispense cubes or crushed ice, regardless of what button we push

  2. We have had to change the plastic gears a couple of times

  3. Now the dispenser jams and pushes the freezer door open when trying to turn and dispense ice.

The question now is whether we should spend $150 to change out the ice bucket or sell it and try again.

The other thing that's been an issue is the doors are not aligned and the adjustment you can make doesn't turn enough to make the doors heights match.

Ice maker issue...
by: HeidiPro

That really is a total bummer! It sounds like the refrigerator really is a good one except for the freezer/ice maker.

We've heard complaints about ice makers but not so much from GE. If you do look around and do more research you'll see a great many from Samsung and LG.

We currently have a KitchenAid that only had installation issues (wasn't set up properly) but since them it's been great.

Our other suggestion would be to look for a refrigerator without an ice dispenser to avoid all of the problems you are having. Typically the ice maker problems we hear about have more to do with the dispensing of the ice than the actual making it.
