Amana can compete with other American appliance giants likeGE because they were recently acquired by Whirlpool. Amana also happens to own the Maytag brand -- which is now also a part of the Whirlpool family.
Amana Top Freezer Refrigerator Advantages
Amana Refrigerators have a number of unique characteristics that truly set them apart:
- Better Efficiency: Amana Refrigerators across the board have some of the highest efficiency ratings available. Most of their models are Energy Star Qualified which means they run on 15% less energy than standard refrigerator models.
- Well Designed Capacity: The Amana Refrigerators might not be the biggest in the bunch, but because their interiors are so well designed, they can truly measure up.
The standard capacity of an Amana feels much larger than similarly priced models due to the well utilized door interiors, pull out shelving and drawer space.
- Runs Quiet: The Amana Top Freezer Refrigerators are some of the most quiet models available. Usually Top Freezer Refrigerators are not as well insulated and will run with more noise than standard models. But Amana is often tops in limiting the amount of noise.
Amana Top Freezer Refrigerator Models we Recommend
There are numerous Top Freezer Refrigerator models in the Amana line, so narrowing down our choice to the following proved to be quite difficult.
We chose only those models that received high marks in our own internal testing as well as Amana refrigerator reviews from both consumers and consumer magazines. Here are the models we were left with:
1) The Amana ATB1932MR Top Freezer:
OVERALL: The Amana ATB1932MR is a great "starter fridge." It's not exactly loaded with features, but if you're just looking for the basics, at under $650.00, this fridge is the way to go.
PROS: You'll find a great deal of features here for something so basic:
- It makes excellent use of its 18.5 cu. ft. interior with well designed door shelving and drawer space.
- The Automatic Moisture control along with the FreshLock Crispers with humidity control allows your fruits and vegetables to stay fresher longer
- This fridge was designed for use with Door Bins that hold up to a Gallon and adjustable wire shelves in the freezer.
- The color range for this fridge is white, black and stainless, which is a big deal considering that most top freezers of this cost only come in white.
With the Amana warranty, this is one fridge that's a perfect addition to just about any kitchen. Or, perfect as a spare fridge for the garage if a compact fridge just won't do.
CONS: The two things we found worth mentioning were:
- The ice maker attachment has a cost of $200+ plus installation.
- While the insulation on the door worked great at keeping the cold in, it also made opening the door a bit tough.
2) The Amana ATB2232 Top Freezer:

OVERALL: The Amana ATB2232 is another good option is you're looking for an affordable and attractive top freezer refrigerator.
PROS: The things that caught our eye were...
- It has a lot of space at 22.0 cubic feet.
- It's extremely well designed interior makes use of all the little cubby holes in the door and interior portion of the fridge.
- The lighting is surprisingly effective with this refrigerator.
- For $200.00 more, it also comes in stainless steel.
- Again, the Amana warranty makes this a fridge to consider.
CONS: The two things you should know about are...
- No optional ice maker.
- Also, shop carefully for this refrigerator as we've seen wide price variances from as low as $650 to as high as $800.00 (for white).

3) The Amana ATB2136AR Top Freezer:
OVERALL: The Amana ATB2136AR offers up a bit more than others in this category. It has a much larger feature set than others that are similarly priced. This was one of our favorites in the Amana Top Freezer Refrigerator line.
PROS:
- The Amana ATB2136AR Top Freezer Refrigerator had a great deal of usable space.
- It has four shelves, gallon door storage and Spill Proof Shelves. What's not to love?
- The Central Cooling Systems allows for even venting throughout the fridge ensuring fresh food and good temperature management.
- We recommend you get the optional ice maker which proved to be quite proficient at making great tasting ice.
- For $200.00 more, it also comes in stainless steel.
CONS: This model varies widely in price across the internet, so shop wisely.
