Refrigerator Recall

Has Your Refrigerator Been Recalled?

Am I refrigerator part of a refrigerator recall?

If you're asking this question, hopefully we can provide you the answer you're looking for.

Owning a refrigerator that has been recalled can be a little bit scary. After all, who do you turn to? Who will compensate you for your existing fridge? Does this mean you need to get rid of your refrigerator or is there a small repair that can be done to bring it back into working order?

Well, luckily most companies take immediate responsibility when they discover that their products could potentially put you or your family at risk. But if you own a refrigerator that has been recalled, you need to be armed with information and need to know where to turn to make you whole again.

What even is a refrigerator recall?

This is when the company that manufactured your refrigerator receives enough complaints about a certain problem to cause them to take action. They decide that you shouldn’t have had this problem in the first place so they are willing to either:

  1. Take care of that specific issue by sending out a repairman to fix it for free

  2. If the problem is severe enough they will actually replace the entire refrigerator with a new one

Why are there appliance recalls in the first place?

While we would love to say that we live in a perfect world and the products that are made are done in such a way that they won’t break, we all know this isn’t true. Typically an appliance recall happens when a certain number of complaints of either damage to the home or injuries to the appliance owner come to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This causes the company to step up and take responsibility for the damages their appliances have caused and hopefully prevents any future issues like this.

Norcold/Coachmen Recall - February 2011

This is an indirect Norcold recall as Coachmen has decided to do a refrigerator recall on certain of their vehicles that came with a 1200-Series Norcold refrigerators. The major concern had to do with an internal sensor or thermal switch installed to do an automatic power shut off not working in a timely fashion and becoming a potential fire hazard.

Should you have a Coachmen vehicle with this type of RV refrigerator, then you should contact them to see if yours is included in this recall. Though should you have this type of fridge in a different brand RV, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to see if they are having the same type of issues.
