I'm VERY Happy with My Frigidaire Side by Side Refrigerator (model FRS26LH5DS9)

by Ellery H.
(Tomball, Texas)

I replaced my 15 year old top freezer refrigerator with a Frigidaire side by side refrigerator 5 years ago.

After looking at everything on the market, I decided on the Frigidaire FRS26LH5DS9 side-by-side 26 foot stainless steel refrigerator with in-door water and ice.

I loved some of the top end refrigerators, but most ran in the upper $2000.00. So I quickly became more realistic and purchased my current for under $2000.00.

It was my first side-by-side with an in-door ice and water dispenser. All three things were not my favorite. I've always felt that more bells & whistles mean more things to go wrong.

I've got to say that I love my side-by-side with in-door water and ice. IF I ever have to replace it I will get those features again.

Another feature that I was not interested in at first. The extra deep door shelves that hod a gallon of milk, a two liter bottles, etc.

I thought the shelves would not be able to hold the extra weight over time. I've come to love this feature and have had no problem with the durability.

Here's the features that I HAD to have:

  1. Water filtration system with easy change filter WITHOUT turning the water off.

  2. Solid glass (or glass like) shelves with spillsafe edges to prevent small spills from flowing off the shelf.

The only negative thing is the ice storage bin. I don't use ice very fast. I could turn the ice maker off occasionally, but it's difficult to get my large hand into the area of the ice maker. When ice accumulates to the top of the bin it overflows and falls down the side of freezer to the bottom shelves.

Also, if I reach into the bin ice cubes fall out onto the floor because the ice level has risen above the lower level of the flap-door.

I can not speak to the energy efficiency. The unit does not use an unusual amount of electricity, but I don't know if it's more or less than other models or manufactures.

Needles to say, I'm VERY satisfied with my Frigidaire refrigerator, so much so that I've subsequently replaced my KitchenAid gas cooking range with a Frigidaire glass top electric convection range-oven. I love it, also.
