1969 Sanyo Refrigerator: Believe it or not is STILL WORKING!!

I like the way this looks but prefer knowing that my mini-fridges won't crap out on me!

I like the way this looks but prefer knowing that my mini-fridges won't crap out on me!

The Sanyo Storemore/with freezer I purchased at the military BX in 1969 in Saigon. I had it in my barracks there. I shipped it back with me and still have it.

In 52 years of continuous service, "Little Saigon" has never missed a day of work. She's been my trusty companion for more years than most marriages last.

It says something about old construction being better than how things are built. They were made to last, but we also cared for things the same way.

I can't tell you how often people have told me, "Why don't you just get a new one that looks modern?" My answer has always been (and will always be) 'why would I?'

I firmly believe that if it ain't broke, then don't fix it...and it ain't broke after 50+ years!!! Why can't a manufacturer try to really create a product that won't need to be replaced? I know it's not good for business, but it's good for the planet.

To further prove my point, I also have a Brother refrigerator of the same size I bought 40 years ago, and it also comes to work 24 hours a day.

Neither refrigerator has heeded any repairs. I wish they made a full-size refrigerator that I could count on like these.

Does anyone have a newer fridge that they feel the same way about as I do my long-time companions?
