Whirlpool Freezerless Refrigerator Stopped Cooling

Our Whirlpool freezerless refrigerator stopped cooling about a month ago that we bought at Lowes in November 2007. About a month ago it stopped cooling. It will cost us $500-$750 to fix it due to the warranty being expired.

The repairman said, there was a compressor problem with them and its not worth fixing.

Don't buy a Whirlpool refrigerator.We're done with Whirlpool for sure!

My Whirlpool Freezerless Fridge Stopped Cooling Also

My warranty went out on my Whirlpool freezerless fridge and 2 weeks later it stopped cooling!

This is the third refrigerator I have gone through in 6 years.

Not all of them have been Whirlpool. But I did my homework on this one and it is no better than the rest.

I didn't know the compressor issues. Glad I didn't pay for a repairman.

I'm buying all my appliances from craigslist from now on, then when they break I'll know I didn't spend $1000 on them.

Whirlpool Freezerless Refrigerator Stopped Cooling

Whirlpool freezerless refrigerator Model EL7ATRRMQ, which we purchased in November, 2005 (just under 6 years ago), would not hold the temperature.

Repair person said to locate the Freon leak would be costly. Any replacement of compressor or repair of leak, etc., would cost almost as much as a new refrigerator.

We would not purchase another Whirlpool freezerless refrigerator.

This is a Common Problem for Whirlpool Freezerless Refrigerators

We first posted a similar problem with our Whirlpool Sidekick refrigerator (which is a freezerless refridgerator and a matching freezer only unit).

Having a large family with 5 kids, we thought it was the perfect refridgeration system because of all the space available in both units. Sadly the freezerless refridgerator stopped cooling after 2 years.

We found out through a trusted repair person that it had developed a freon leak in the sealed cooling tube somewhere in the side panel of the unit and since this was a sealed unit there is no way to repair it.

The repair person went on to say these Whirlpool freezerless refrigerators are known for this problem.

Also as you probably know by now, Whirlpool will not do anything to help since the problem conveniently developed after the 1 year warranty expired.

Loss of Refrigerant Whirlpool Sidekick

Your problem is probably not the compressor, but the evaporator coil developed a leak.

Search online for: "freezerless refrigerator Whirlpool" or "Whirlpool sidekick". Many with the same problem.

Mine had bad chemical smell inside for six weeks until it stopped cooling. Compressor runs continuous, temp will only drop to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, sides no longer get hot (condenser coils in the sides).
