Refrigerator Compressor

by Kathy
(USA)

We are wondering if a dual refrigerator compressor is required for our needs.

Our Co-op is looking for a refridge that will perform well in an unheated space in the winter. We were told that fridges with two compressors (one for freezer, one for frig) will do the trick. Is this true. Do these fridges with separate temp controls have two compressors? Thanks

Dual Compressor...
by: HeidiPro

Hi Kathy,

My first suggestion was to look for a Whirlpool Gladiator garage refrigerator as it is the only one to my knowledge that is made to be used in an unheated area.

Otherwise as long as there's no issue with moisture, any 2 compressor fridge should work. Though I don't know what kind of storage space you'll be needing.

As for whether or not refrigerators with separate temperature controls have two compressors, it's not a given. We've found a few Miele refrigerators with dual compressors:

Miele Independence KF1801
Miele Independence KF1901

The only things with both of these is that they are both fairly costly and are built-in units.

We've also added your question to our site to see if anyone else has some good advice to offer. You will get an email when someone responds to your question.

We hope this is helpful.
