Refrigerant Leak in My LG French Door Refrigerator, model LFC22740SB

After 3-1/2 years of operation, two of which were summertime-only, our LG French Door Refrigerator (model LFC22740SB) stopped cooling.

A local LG-authorized repair service determined that the refrigerant (freon) had leaked out and resulted in compressor failure. They deemed the unit unrepairable. That was a month prior this writing.

As of today, I am still without a refrigerator because LG is insisting that it MAY not be unrepairable, because the leak just MIGHT be in a place where it can be fixed.

The repair company has never encountered such a response, and LG insists that they have to make at least one more service call to perform an expensive leak test to determine the location of the leak, and at my expense.

There is no assurance that this test would be the last. I have made innumerable calls to everyone involved and have gotten exactly nowhere.

When and if LG finally acknowledges the obvious then I can look forward to their "process" by which they discuss "options" with me about "adjusting" the warranty claim. I got one supervisor in customer-care to admit that the process can be a month in duration.

I am convinced that LG warranty is operated in such a way as to grind down claimants until they give up in exasperation. So instead of doing what's right by simply replacing the refrigerator and making me glow all over about how good LG is, they wind up to make me mad as hell--all just to save a few hundred corporate bucks.

Right now, the only thing that keeps me going on this is my desire for them to feel my pain, although I am wondering if I'm going to be throwing good money after bad.

If you are a prospective LG buyer, I wish you better luck than I.

LG appliances are bad - stay away from LG NEW
by: Anonymous

We purchased the LG refrigerator model LMXS27626S back in 2015 as part of a 4-piece from Costco. This refrigerator broke within 4 years around November 2019. It stopped cooling completely and we lost all the food stored in the refrigerator. After many calls with Costco and LG, finally LG sent a technician to fix it. Since there was a law suite on this refrigerator model regarding compressor issues, the technician replaced the compressor and updated the firmware. Within one day again, the refrigerator stopped cooling. LG sent again the technician. He did a better diagnostic and detected freon lines leak just behind the freezer door. The technician contacted LG Engineers and put a patch to fix the leak. These freon lines behind the door are made of steel and got rusted and broke with the impact of freezer door closings.

The fix done in 2019 worked for some time and again now on 8th September 2022, the refrigerator stopped cooling. After contacting LG and explaining the issue, finally LG sent a technician. This time technician detected the leak in the freon line on the other end of the door. The technician contacted LG Engineers and they decided that this can't be patched and can't be repaired. The LG technician left without repairing and fixing it. So far we lost total food three times with this refrigerator.

Now we have had no refrigerator for four weeks. LG customer service said they escalated this issue, but there is no help from LG in replacing or fixing this unit.

This is clearly a manufacturing defect and design issue in LG refrigerators and LG Engineers also confirmed this. Appliances are of high cost, especially refrigerator is the highest cost appliance and are expected to last at least 15-20 years of service. LG and Costco refused to repair or replace the refrigerator and said that there is no warranty.

LG LFX28968ST French Door fridge NEW
by: Chris

LG Fridge bought in July 2014 - 7-8 years old. Replacing 25 year old fridge that we kept running in garage until 2020 when replaced for "old fridge" rebate. LG stopped working about 3 weeks ago. Called LG. They never mentioned compressor warrantied for 10 years. Regardless, LG tech came out. Replaced compressor and recharged. Ran great for 4 days. Guy came back 3x and searched for leaks. Fridge ran fine for 3-4 days after. LG - shorthand for piece of planned-obsolescence SHIT.

weirdly IDENTICAL situation (but with KitchenAid KRFC300EBS)
by: D. Lavérité

Five (5) weeks ago, our barely 4-year-old "KitchenAid KRFC300EBS French Door Refrigerator" (36 inch Width, ENERGY STAR Certified, Counter Depth, 20.0 cu. ft. Capacity, Freezer Located Ice Dispenser, Interior Water Dispenser, LED Lighting, Black Stainless Steel colour) suddenly stopped cooling. Digital temperature readings in both fridge + freezer sections were increasing rapidly.

Staff at the large, long established appliance store it was purchased from directed their insurance company to send an official tradesman to come and inspect the problem. He came first thing the following morning.

Fifteen minutes of his inspections + tests left quite the look of disbelief on his face and in his tone as explained:

"Somehow this fridge leaked ALL its gas! Now I've been repairing fridges over 20 years. Honestly I've never seen anything like this. Fridges age and will leak a bit of gas over time. We top it up, seal the leak, and all good. But your fridge has leaked completely - No gas left! I double-checked the usual areas where leaks happen but still can't locate the leak. Im sorry, we just aren't equipped for this.
This is a catastrophic leak which seems internal at this point. Theyll just have to give you a replacement. Im sorry, this can't be fixed."

Hours on the phone (to/from retailer, to/from insurance company that 'handles' customer claims) yielded an insurance agent repeating the tradie's conclusion: replacement is only option. Fridge not repairable. She said they'd ring us in the morning with next steps. But [of course] no one rang us.

We initiated contact. Usual infuriating phone hurdles: senseless hrs lost trying to reach right people, left on hold dozens of times, re- & re-re-explaining everything each time...

Ultimately, Insurance Agent suddenly announced the fridge will be repaired - completely denying everything they told us literally 14hrs earlier! They said the 1st available repairman will come on 29/11/2021 (which, at that point, was five weeks later!)

The retailer's staff readily agreed with us that something dodgy is clearly going on with the Insurer.

For 1 month the weather has dictated how we eat: cold winter temperatures (-5°C to +5°C) = we cook, using the garage as our fridge. Of course, we got several periods of unseasonably warm weather. Had to throw out a lot of spoiled milk (meant for coffee/tea). Ordering takeaway has been costly.

Our dumb ordeal is a salient reminder:
I) to count our Blessings 'cos too many ppl needlessly suffer actual food insecurity all day every day, &

II) that honesty + integrity are losing their value as rapidly as our fridge lost all its freon:/

Bad service
by: Anonymous

We are going on five weeks and 4 service calls to fix our refrigerator. After waiting a ridiculous amount of time for LG to send a tech,he replaces the compressor. Fridge worked for 2 days and failed. To his credit, tech came back in 2 days and said the freon lines were blocked. He evacuated the lines, vacuumed and flushed them, refilled with freon. 24 hours later, not cooling again. I contact tech, he says fridge will need new intense and evaporator. I ask when he will do that, he says he can't order the parts without a work order. I call lg, they say he has no availability and they schedule a different tech. I ask if he will come with the parts in hand. of course not. The tech comes and bad mouths the last tech and says his solder joint failed. he corrected it and says fridge is fine. 224 hours later, not cooling again. LG says tech has no availability for another week.
such a lack of empathy. over 5 weeks without fresh food. Unacceptable

Lg lfx28978 not cooling - buy a remote thermostat NEW
by: Jim

Bought in 2010, this fridge is on its last leg. Its only problem is a Freon leak. I noticed the freezer got to about 37 degrees and the ice cream was soft. Went though a bunch of troubleshooting and tested the thermostat, which was good. The frozen evaporator coil at the inlet tube led me to believe the Freon was low, so following YouTube hack, I bought a piercing valve, 134a, and a gauge. The low side was reading a vacuum -10g, so I filled it to about +2psi. The compressor was working and by morning the freezer went down to zero degrees. Nice. Lasted about a year and then started getting getting warm again. Filled it again. Fixed. Lasted about two weeks. Tried leak proof but that didn’t work. Used uv dye in the 134a and it looks to be coming from the evap coil. The compressor is still good in my view because I didn’t let the Freon stay low for too long. I’m going to try to replace the evap coil. I just going to buy the dammed tools and do it myself. I highly recommend buy a couple of inexpensive wireless thermometers on Amazon for freezer and fridge. This will give you advanced warning that something is wrong and avoid a costly repair. Freezer should be around zero, and if I see it bouncing over 10 except on defrost, I can check it out.

lg leak refridgerator NEW
by: confused

my fridge stopped cooling. lg sent someone out and the tech determined that it needed a compressor. he replaced it and it worked for 2 days and stopped cooling. After waiting a week and calling constantly, lg finally told me it was unrepairable
and they would be replacing it. i have been trying to determine when that was going to happen as i have been out of work for 9 months due to covid closure. now they finally wrote back saying they are going to pro rate the fridge based on the dealer cost and return some money. crazy how they just find a way out instead of doing the right thing and replacing the fridge. not my fault they cant fix it. why do i now need to pay the price. imagine i financed a fridge and once i didn't want it anymore i stopped paying and told them its ok you can have the fridge back...wonder how that would fly

Another LG manufactured (Kenmore) refrigerator bites the dust NEW
by: Anonymous

Our 5 yr old Kenmore Elite (manufactured by LG) stopped cooling on Christmas Eve. 4 days to get hold of a appliance repair expert. When he looked at the model number, he shook his head - another LG compressor/evaporator problem. They can be fixed for about $800, but maybe other pin-hole leaks in system. His firm no longer services these LG problems -- the repairs only last about another year or two, if your lucky. While LG enjoys great reviews by CR and they really do have a great design, the cooling system does NOT hold up. He recommended Whirlpool or GE manufactured lines, and try to stay with single cooling instead of two (freezer and frig). They are simpler, better built, and repairable if needed. Note: Any extra features are expensive in two ways - initial cost and added maintenance costs.

Most of tthe time the leaks are in the Yoder line that,s used to warm the cabinet around the doors,,, They use a bundy steel copper mix line that rusts,,,, if the fridge is in a air conditioned house,,, just by pass this line and you ll be fine

Not just LG but Samsung, too
by: Anonymous

I had a seven year old Samsung that lost all its refrigerant. The Samsung repair guy told me it would cost $800 for him to track down the leak, but there was a good chance it was irreparable anyway. He asked me how big a gambler I was. I opted to replace the refrigerator with a non-Samsung. Last month my son's 5 year old LG had the same problem. A certified LG technician, not working for LG anymore, but off on his own, told him that the Korean refrigerators have this problem. He said that they use very thin copper coils versus the other major competitors and that is why they leak after a relatively short period of time. Obviously, my son bought a non-LG refrigerator as a replacement. The store we both bought our refrigerators from won't carry Samsung and LG refrigerators because this store gives their own extended warranties and it was too expensive for them to continue to repair or replace the refrigerators. I don't know how Consumer Reports continues to give them such good repair records.

yup, early stage refridge leak - putting LG in garbage! NEW
by: jerrylogansquare

i had compressor replaced on LG fridge in Oct 2019. We noticed temp going up in both fridge and freezer a month ago (Mar 2020). I pulled the fridge apart and did the basic diagnostics. When i pulled the cover off the freezer evap coil, i found the coil was mostly 'warm' (for a freezer) and there was huge ice build up at the top where the refrigerant line comes in. I found this website that says I have a leak. So, rather than deal with LG and tech, we're just getting a new fridge (GE) and i'm going to be ALL over the internet posting how this fridge has been terrible.

LFXS29626S/01 French Door Fridge NEW
by: db

This fridge was part of a class action lawsuit I believe. The warranty was extended to 5 years (parts and labor). I'm just 5 months shy of the 5 years. Whole unit stopped cooling overnight (fridge and freezer).
I've got an LG scheduled Tech coming out soon (will have been without fridge for 2 weeks by the time Tech arrives). These posts are making me nervous about the outcome... :-o

LG fridge freezer freon leak NEW
by: Simon Evans

So it’s sickening to hear all these comments and how LG is screwing us all over.
My LG American fridge freezer broke 3 weeks ago and is still broken now. I’ve raised a complaint with LG that this £1100 fridge has failed in just over 2 years. These products should last about 10 years. I’ve had 2 engineers sent out by LG who the 2nd one said it wasn't worth repairing! I’ve gone back to LG saying all my food was wasted and Christmas was coming up and I’ve got 2 kids etc but all you get is "we’ll respond in 24-48hrs". I’m furious with them. I had no fridge for the Christmas period, LG just don’t care. I’ve called them again today to see if I can get a refund and they denied me. All they said is I can have a refund of £159 for the attempted repair. I feel sick with rage over this. These products are obviously defective and either need recalling or is customers refunded. I won’t touch LG products even again. The customer service is shocking. Stay away!!! Anyone know how I can get my money back???

LG sucks
by: Anonymous

I too have LG refrigerator bought Aug 2017 Model:LMXS27626S I have been without a fridge for 1 week now LG tech just did not care. Freon leak need new compressor, evaporator, and something else I can't recall. I call LG cause this is just NOT acceptable. Same barely speaking english reading from her script giving the run around for an hour. She hung up the phone on me! Not before she told me the parts could take 3 WEEK'S to arrive. How do these people expect someone to be without a fridge for a MONTH!! Absolute WORST customer service I have ever dealt with. They just DON'T CARE!!! I called Best Buy for the 20th time in a week at my witts end. They are swapping out the fridge for the same LG refrigerator just newer model. I REALLY hope they fixed their issues. Doubtful though. EVERYONE JOIN CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT LG NEEDS TO PAY. THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS!!!

LG LMXS27626S/00 NEW
by: Anonymous

Our LG refrigerator LMXS27626S/00 stop cooling after 4 years. Called LG customer support and they argued that it is out of warranty and they don't cover labor and only compressor part will be covered. Luckily, we bought this from Costco and Costco customer support were very nice, called directly LG to initiate the work order through third party appliances services.

Technician came and replaced compressor, updated firmware and EVAP coil. It worked for two days and stopped working again. LG initiated again the work order. This time technician was clueless on where the leak could be. He called LG technical support and they told the possible location of the leak. This refrigerator is a 4 door. Space between bottom two doors is having freon lines. One of the freon line is having a hole because of rust formation. He put a patch by cutting and soldering with a piece of copper pipe. It's been working for more than two days now. But not sure, how long. I believe, because of steel usage for freon lines, they can fail and get holes at any time.

This LG refrigerators seems to be having some major design flaws and reliability.
* Linear compressor design flaws
* Freon lines are made of steel, get rust and holes.

Model #LPXS30866D Freon leaked out NEW
by: Anonymous

Our fridge stopped cooling 2 weeks ago. We have had the "technician" come to look at it and were told it was a freon leak and basically unrepairable. After reading all of these stories I am feeling even more frustrated and angry and not very optimistic about how this will end.

Not only is this fridge only 3 years old, the "technician" is a complete idiot. He is telling me that they need to wait for LG to send a request for his service report. I have been with out a fridge for 2 weeks. My husband had to wait for 2 hours on the phone to get the authorization for him to have the "technician" come and look at it. Then I get this angry email from the technician saying that they won't send anything until LG requests its. Told me that " Perhaps a little restraint on your anger and demands would be prudent until you are clear on the facts"

Well you can believe I had a few more "facts" for her!

Now we will also wait for the "Executive Service Team" to approve this report and then be in touch with our "options". To add to this very frustrating experience none of the "customer service" agents I spoke with could barely speak English and I had to continually ask them to slow down as I could not understand what they were saying. They are just a bunch of poor frontline phone answerers with no authority to do anything. I was on hold several times while she had to get to a supervisor of some Dort to allow her to send me a copy of an e-mail they had sent. When I got the e-mail it was nothing that I had requested.

Beyond frustration with this product and situation.

Kenmore Elite made by LG NEW
by: Anonymous

I am on my second Kenmore/LG refrigerator. The 1st one failed after 4 years and after "8" weeks was replaced by SEARS.Compressor and Motherboard had to be replaced and guess what. Did not fix the problem!! The replacement has failed after 3 years. Same run around by Sear Warranty Service.1 week before a tech can come out and then 5 failures before they will replace the Refrigerator. As stated in another review here Warrantys' are a waste of money because all Sears/LG want to do is wear you down. DON'T Buy Kenmore or LG. Total junk.

LG Refrigerator not cooling after 3 years NEW
by: Anonymous

So, I too have an LG French Door Refrigerator Linear Compressor with dual ICE maker and it too stopped cooling after 3 year. I called LG and they sent Puls out to fix it, they replaced the compressor and mother board. Still doesn't work.
Now Puls is coming back again to replace refrigerant line as there is a leak. It's been 2 weeks so far without a fridge which is insane. LG is the worst and I am not giving up. I am going to make them give me a new fridge, but if there is a class action suit, count me in.

LG French Door refrigerator NEW
by: Edie Dennis

We bought ours in November of 2010, after the first year ice maker quit on us then the drain line would freeze up so that meant water in the bottom of freezer, so had to defrost that every 2 months or I would have water on my floor. So since February of this year we replaced the compressor which was under warranty thank god but still had to pay for the labor, the evaporator, dye dryer and something else, so now they say it might have a internal Freon leak.
We are so mad, cause we bought it because of the great reviews, LG will not do anything about it either so our loss. Over 2000.00 down the drain. I guess you can’t depend on reviews anymore

$3000 French Door not cooling NEW
by: LG Stinks

Model Number: LFX25991ST
5 years old

Posting for a disabled friend of mine.

This is a 5 year old $3,000 LG unit.

Few weeks back she noticed some water on the exterior ice dispenser. Cleaned it and problem went away.

1 week later, same thing.

Another week and now no cooling at all.

I pulled it out and removed the back cover. Coils were a little dirty but not much. Cleaned them. Saw no moisture. Fan next to the coils is running. Compressor is running, warm but not hot.

No frost.

No error codes and it is not in display mode.

Called LG which was an exercise in frustration. They would say they would call back but never would. Said the service would be free, then they said $500-$1000.

Called a few independent repair places, they want nothing to do with LG.

Apparently the sealed system is not so sealed and the refrigerant has escaped. Seems to be a common LG issue.

Stay away from LG.

LG LFXS29766 French Door Refrigerator
by: Coats

Our LG French Door was purchased July 2015. Like a lot of other people on here after 3.5 years it stopped cooling. Repair man came out and said it was Freon leak and would cost at least $1000 to fix it and there was no guarantee it would work. I will NEVER buy LG again! Is there a class action law suit for this?

Kenmore Elite Leaking Refrigerant
by: Patrick

I too like many of you have the same problem with my Kenmore Elite French Door fridge that was manufactured by LG. Bought a whole new kitchen set in July of 2015, Fridge, Oven and Micro/Convection combo. First wen the convection part of the micro, after 4 visits and $350 later the tech said it would take one more visit and a part that costs $400. The micro still works but not the convection. Had a small issue with the oven that the tech took care of during one of his visits only paid for the part. Now my fridge is not working. Had an independent technician come out and diagnose the problem and said the compressor was working but that all of the refrigerant had leaked out and suggested I get a new fridge. I called Sears to complain that everything I purchased has had issues. My Fridge doesn't work, my convection part of my microwave doesn't work. Thankfully my oven work, but for how long. They apologized and said that I should have purchased the extended warranty and suggested that I buy there service for a year for $600 and I would still have to pay $100 for them to come out. I told her that sounded very fair. To sell me an appliance package that cost over $3500 and for them to break down within 3.5 years, then blame me for not buying and extended warranty and then want me to buy a service contract that will cost me $100 every time they came out after the initial $600. I am currently trying to find out how to be a part of the class action lawsuit that is against Kenmore and LG for leaking refrigerant.

Good luck everyone.

Kenmore Elite not cooling
by: MadTexan

So has there been any recourse? My story is the same. We purchased the Kenmore Elite French door refrigerator in August 2015. We’ve been very happy with our Kenmore appliances for over 20 years and thought we were investing in a quality product. Well, 3 years later and it’s not cooling. The technician just left and diagnosed a slow Freon leak, recommends replacement. Sears says they can’t do anything to fix it and had the nerve to try to sell my extended warranties on the other appliances we purchased at the same time as the fridge. Oh! The technician told me that he saw this same fridge earlier with the exact same problem. Also 3 years old.

LG French Door Compressor and Coolant Leak Problems NEW
by: Ellis Family

My LG French door refrigerator linear compressor is stuck in low speed operation and has a coolant leak but the diagnostic tests indicate no problem. A certified technician did diagnostic tests, did inspections of the control panel on the rear of the refrigerator, cooling coils and compressor in the bottom rear of the unit. After removing the control panel cover (where the power cord enters the rear of the unit) we both detected a slight burnt smell of the control panel. The inspections identified the compressor in slow speed mode and could not be made to go into high speed mode; and a whitish color on some of the cooling coils, which was coolant leak, not dust or frost. His advice: do not repair because of the cost alone plus the likelihood because a similar problem would exist with a new linear compressor and new cooling coils (very thin walled that leak because of the coolant).

Nothing but problems NEW
by: Sheraine

My unit was a lemon from the first year. I’m so disgusted. I got the same form letter offering a courtesy repair as long as I obsolve LG of any further obligations. It shows they have admitted there are issues with a leak in the sealed portion of the fridge. I’ve had my local electric company’s worry free technician here several times. He had to fix things that the authorized repair company caused (loose wire). He has told me every time there is a tiny hole somewhere but he can not repair a warranted portion. Called a local appliance repair place twice, both times they refused to touch the unit and recommended replacing with a different brand. I initially paid for an extended warranty but decided not to renew...that’s when the problems with the fridge escalated! Paid for a 3 month warranty and had compressor and evaporator replaced.....after the warranty period ended, Freon had leaked out and I refuse to pay for another repair. I’ve put $800 into this "lemon" and have mushy ice cream, non working ice maker (previously replaced) and feel that customer service is horrible. Will never purchase an LG product again. I love the design of this fridge with the double freezer drawer and will have to pay more now and settle for a single freezer drawer In Order to have more fridge space.

LG 795.5181 Side-By-Side Broken 3 1/2 yrs NEW
by: Anonymous

The original writer's story sounds just like mine. Our Kenmore 795.5181, which was manufactured by LG and purchased from Sears 3.5 yrs ago failed. Local serviceman said was due to freon leak and that repair would cost beyond cost of the fridge. Will never go with Kenmore of LG again. Repairman stated side-by-side doors and icemakers have lots of problems amd best to go with top- or bottom-freezer models.

LG French Door Bottom Freezer not cooling nor freezing NEW
by: Anonymous

LG French Door Bottom Freezer not cooling nor freezing.

I had a LG technician visit last year. We replaced the compressor, the evaporator and the drier.
Same story again this year. The technician just showed up, looked at the fridge and is now telling me it will cost me a lot as he needs to replace everything including compressor, condenser, dryer. really? this is a joke. when i asked about warranty on the repairs, he said 3 months.

I'm all for a class action

LSXS26366 failed in less than 2 years NEW
by: The Winston family

Unit stopped cooling and a certified repair tech stated that a Freon leak caused the issue. The unit is pretty much beyond economical repair. Repair tech said that he sees this all the time and suspects that the unit having crimped connectors as opposed to braised connectors causes the issue.
Maybe it’s time for a class action so LG will support a proper recall.

LG french door 3.5yr old $3200 NEW
by: Anonymous

NOT working and LG customer service is a joke. they do not stand by there product. I also have a warranty and both the warranty company and LG keep trying to pass the buck.
At this point I just want a refund on this horrific product. I have called numerous repair shops none of who can do a sealed service repair. the one person I did find was not able to come until Sept 4. (one month from when the product stopped working) IT is unacceptable to think that someone can make due without a refrigerator for one month.

I guess the reason they cannot refund is because they would go broke. the LG product is not reliable do yourself a favor and never buy any LG product
Class action Lawsuit anyone???

LG French Door Refrigerator NEW
by: Anonymous

Refrigerant leak seems to be the common caused of LG French door refrigerator. I have the same problem with my 2 years old LG refrigerator. The cooling system stopped working. It's a nightmare trying to reach their support group via phone or email to find out the reason. They are totally useless. they could not tell why the cooling system is not working nor did they offer to send someone out to check out the problem. I finally had to pay other repair person to look at the problem. He told me it's a refrigerant leak and it will cost a lots of money to fix it. The person recommended that I contact LG to see if the product is still within warranty and to see if their technicians can fix the problem at a much lower cost. I called LG support again to see if they could send one of their technicians to evaluate and fix the problem. The customer representative on the phone told me he will submit an order to have someone contact me regarding a visit. It has been more than 10 hours and I am still waiting for their call. This is my first LG appliance product and it will be last. From now on, I do not plan to purchase any more LG products and plan to recommend to friends and family members not to purchase as well since their products are not very reliable and there is totally no support when there is a problem.

No leak yet but compressor repair guy wants to replace EVAPORATOR coil too NEW
by: Anonymous

My 7YO LFC21776ST counter-depth bottom-freezer french doored LG had the compressor go recently, it sounded like 3 little men with hammers inside. A savvy local repair outfit insisted on replacing the evaporator coil not just the compressor; he said they had a LOT of troubles with evap coils in the LGs and ALWAYS replaces the evap coil when working on a LG compressor replacement. I have looked up and purchased all the parts I could but it doesn't seem like you can buy the capillary tube. I'm to the point of doing this whole job my self and it's not fun! The condensor coil is cheap on ebay, so's the evap with new heating element, but the capillary one would have to measure length and diam inside and out...there does not seem to be a LG part# for that. No leks yet but from what I read if I don't replace some of this stuff it will happen, and yes, always replace the filter drier...that's a given.

Freon leak at the back of the unit today, from my 3 year old LG refrigerator that was only used for 22 months since purchase. The water started leaking from a defrosting freezer, Reading from all the comments posted, I am just another victim of LG. I am sending email to LG to show a proof of product failure. Such a waste of money to invest in expensive LG unit.
I won't buy another LG ever.

PLEASE POST A CONTACT FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.

LG lemon NEW
by: Anonymous

We purchased an LG LGXC24726S on 3/15.. It stopped cooling a week ago and we are waiting for a compressor and evaporating coil to be delivered from LG since they won’t let anyone else sell their junk. Luckily we purchased a 5 year warranty on this piece of junk. The technician knew right away of what the problem was simply by looking at the model. I’m being told the service department from the store where we purchased this that a soldered joint probably gave way and all the refrigerant leaked out causing the compressor to ultimately fail. So , in 2015 how does a $2,500 refrigerator suddenly have a soldered joint rupture. This is a Korean piece of garbage that we made a huge mistake buying. I will be extending our warranty in 2020 for another 5 years. Fingers crossed that our parts will arrive sometime soon. The bigger question is why are these even being sold with how many problems they have? LG = Life is a Gamble.

Total loss of refrigerant in LG side-by-side refrigerator, model LSXS26326S NEW
by: Monique L

I just encountered a similar problem that I've read in other posts. My LG refrigerator just lost all cooling and freezing capacity due to an apparent loss of refrigerant. I have an LG Model LSXS26326S which I purchased from Lowe's in Kailua-Kona in Jan 2015 which makes this refrigerator only 3-1/2 years old. I have this refrigerator in a condo that I rent out as a vacation rental (which is always booked) so the situation is particularly critical since it's not just affecting me, but also my vacation rental guests. The guests in my rental right now have already lost all of their food due to spoilage, which they've already been reimbursed for. They're using a loaner refrigerator now, but are being subjected to this issue in the middle of their vacation. Not good. I purchased this refrigerator from Lowe's and also purchased a 5-year protection plan from Lowe's. I called in a claim to Lowe's who told me that all of their service providers were "at capacity" which meant that I have to wait until one of their contracted service providers becomes available before the refrigerator can be serviced. I have since escalated to Lowe's management and am in the middle of working through resolution of the issue right now.

LG garbage NEW

Same story here too. Bought it in 2014, and by Dec. of 2017 it stopped cooling. Had it "repaired" only to stop again after a couple weeks. LG customer service is super rude and has hung up on my husband multiple times. They always tell us they will call us back within 2-3 days, but they have yet to follow through! It was very hard to even get a service tech. It is now May, and our fridge is still sitting here in our kitchen, not working. I will tell everyone that I can so stay far away from LG.

by: Stoochie

My LG French Door refrigerator stopped cooling after 2 years and 3 months. Although I never buy extended service plans, because of the negative reviews I bought the 5-year Asurion plan from Home Depot. LG replaced the compressor under the factory warranty and Asurion covered the labor plus $300 to replace food lost to spoilage. Hopefully, the new compressor will last longer than 10 years. My previous GE Profile lasted over 20 years.

Did anyone have any luck with Lg? Also just starting the process to try and get a refund or a new fridge. Same Freon Leak; LG no help whatsoever NEW
by: Anonymous

We loved our LG French door fridge ($2500 LXF31925ST/00). At least ours made it 5 years before it stopped working, determined to be a unrepairable Freon leak by a really good local repairman. It's been 3 months and I'm still unable to get LG to do anything to help (without me spending $100s more). Their parts warranty is worthless as I have to spend $100s to conclude they can't fix it and then I am out $100s. I've called and talked to their "Executive Dept" 6 times. Each time they say they will do something and call back. They NEVER call back and they NEVER do what they say. They will never do anything to help the customers. LG is a horrible company.

over 3 monthss, two "non'reparable" determinations, and still no satisfactory LG response NEW
by: Anonymous

Similar problem with my LG refrigerator. Stopped cooling November 22, 2017. Over 3 months later and after 4 LG directed service calls, two determinations by those technicians that the refrigerator is not reparable, and about 20 calls to LG, three "resolution team" submissions, and one "refund submission", still no response. Not sure if this is intentional or not on LG's part, but I am retired and am refusing to give up on pursuing satisfaction for failed warranted parts. I do feel sorry for those that don't have the time and the patience to pursue this. I certainly resent the time I have had to invest in it. I did sign up for info on the class action lawsuit. I don't really see an alternative at this point.

LG refrigerator & service problems NEW
by: Anonymous

Refrigerator is 17 months old and stopped cooling. I bought the extended 5-year warranty and the warranty company, Warrantech, told me it would be at least a week before they could get someone here and suggested I call LG if that wasn't satisfactory. Called LG service, which is challenging since they do not speak English very well, and they gave me 3 authorized service companies to call. Two never returned my call and the 3rd came out the next day and told me they are not capable of working on this type of problem and suggested I ask LG for a replacement. I could go on forever but after 9 days LG has still not found anyone that will work on this refrigerator. My warranty says they will replace the fridge if it cannot be fixed but they won't discuss that yet. I would strongly suggest you Google "LG refrigerator class action lawsuits" and join one of them. This is obviously a serious design issue on LG's part, and coupled with absolutely horrible customer service, it's something no one should have to deal with. I will never purchase anything with LG on it again.

LG Fridge Nightmare NEW
by: T Burgin

Wow! This is my story over and over. Purchased LG French door fridge late November 2015-$2200. Loved it! Still do but... First week of February 2018 noticed frost in freezer, assumed door was left ajar. Next day-clearly not cooling, ruined food. Upper compartment was also warming. Called Best Buy service who came 5 days later. Diagnosed a "sealed system leak but compressor was running". No charge (amazing) and suggested calling LG as it is a warranty issue. Of note, we failed to buy an extended warranty. Called LG (worst customer service ever) provided me with two options for "certified" repair techs. 1st one doesn’t service our area. Second was difficult to get ahold of and has dismal reviews- expensive, rude, etc. Called LG back, they say I can find my own tech and see if they will accept working with LG for warrantied parts. Surprise!! Called no less than 8 and all said NO! Back to my only option- schedule appt for another 5 days out. All of these calls and back and forth with LG, repair companies took no less than 5 hours over two days. Company with terrible reviews arrive, they won’t even look at the fridge until I write a $95 service call check. They tell me compressor is bad and will call with estimate next day. They do, nearly $800 estimate!! Initially, we called the out of area company who estimated $400, we contemplated driving our fridge 75 miles for repairs. But I had the weekend to think and research more, finding numerous sites like this, with the same story, and continued failures after spending hundreds of dollars, we decided to cut our losses and buy a new fridge. NOT an LG and bit the bullet and purchased an extended warranty. My beautiful LG fridge now sits on the back porch awaiting a class action lawsuit!
Moral of the story- DO NOT be fooled by the 10 year warranty! Or DO NOT buy an LG refrigerator. But. If you just can’t pass up the beauty, spend the money on an extended warranty. It might save you from this frustration and loss of money.

by: Bala M

We bought this LG Refregirator on April 2015. Less than 3 years, it stopped cooling. Called my Home Protection Plan repair guy. He said the Freon leaking and I need to call LG. Called LG and they asked me to call local service person authorized by LG. I need to pay the labor which this company is asking $600 + visit charge of $75. Based on all these reviews, I am not sure if I need to proceed with the tech. I have spent more than $2400 on this fridge and it is a complete waste.

LG French Door LMXS307762/00 NEW
by: Dustin (Another LG Victim)

Same deal folks. 3 Year old fridge, purchased 11/2014, worked great with no problems, then all of a sudden ice melted this week, everything stopped cooling. Called LG, they recommended authorized technicians. Made an appointment that took a week. They showed up, said it was a Freon leak and they've seen this before. They called LG and ordered a kit they will need to come back and attach to the fridge to find where the leak is... if they can find it.

I've decided to borrow a fridge and ride this process with LG. I talked with the authorized repair folks and they seem to believe that if this unit ends up un-repairable then LG will have to replace unit or refund original purchase price. I called LG and talked to their regular representative and their executive/manager rep and they both lead me to believe that if the fridge is deemed un-repairable by the tech (after doing a checklist of items) then there will be some restitution of replacement or refund. Of course we will have to pay about $500 at least out of pocket in labor to even get to that point. We'll see how it goes.

Maybe I'm a fool to believe I'll get any money out of LG but I figure I have a free backup fridge, I'm hoping they can fix this fridge for the labor cost or we can fight LG for refund/replacement.

Fridge is 4.5 years old - same thing as everyone, paid Home-Tech $150 to come out and tell me I have a sealed system leak. I took the advice and went to https://chimicles.com/lg-refrigerator-compressor-class-action-investigation/ and completed the form so that I could be included in the class action law suit. I went and bought a $150 mini-fridge that I'm living out of until a new one arrives. I'll put the mini on the lanai - so don't feel like I wasted money on it. We have had the same problem as previous owners that have left comments. We have had our lg French Door Fridge and on Christmas Eve ice maker and freezer stopped functioning. Next day top area stopped cooling.
After going round and round with LG we finally found a repairman that came out and told us the problem was loss of coolant and that he had seem several with this problem.
We decided to purchase another Fridge instead of trying a repair. Too bad it's still like new and we loved it while it was working.

LG LFXC24726S French door sealed system leak NEW
by: Anonymous

Wow guess I'm not alone unfortunately. Two days before Thanksgiving with all the holiday food ruined. Sad to think people thought they were buying a premium product with their hard earned money and in most cases financing the large purchase only to have it fail like many others. After hours on the phone with LG trying to find qualified repair company's it became apparent that most if not all didn't want anything to do with this. After hiring an independent they said the same thing. Sealed system failure. No Idea of where its leaking as it gases out slowly over the 2.5 years in service. About 1400.00 to repair out of pocket. After many calls to LG finally received an outgoing email (no reply allowed) that was a canned sorry for your trouble but good luck we will not assist you in getting a replacement product. After completing a survey about their executive service they push you into an ad for LG. Sad I'm in agreement with hundreds of others that there needs to be compensation for losses. Good luck.

bad product and bad home warranty company NEW
by: Anonymous

My two and a half years old LG french door refrigerator was broken 50days ago. But I had a choice home warranty so I called that company. It sent me a fool technician and his diagnosis was that the main board of my refrigerator was out of order and changed the board two times. It took for forty days to wait the part from home warranty. Even though the board was changed, my refrigerator wouldn't work. And I hired new tech myself and found that my refrigerator's freon gas was leaking and unrepairable. I called the choice home warranty and it told me that leaking is not covered.
I am fool by two company(LG and choice home warranty)one makes bad refrigerator only running two and a half years and the other sent me a fool technician and kept me waiting for 40days and at last it told me it is not covered.
Never buy LG and never buy ChoiceHOME warranty.

He said to throw it away and get a new refrigerator. He suggested not to by LG models.

LG LFX31925ST went out NEW
by: Eric Mad as Hell Frazer

My fridge went out after 5 years. thought when I bought it with a 10 year sealed system warranty, I was being pretty smart. Nope. Not even. Fridge doesn't cool enough in the fridge part. Avg temperature is 55F. I called a repairman out and he said the sealed system has a clog in it and I should probably throw it out and never buy LG again. I called LG, just to be stubborn and asked them about the warranty. After i provided them w/ the receipt, they sent me a list of ONLY 3 authorized repair people who could fix it. Labor was extra, they only covered parts. Out of the 3 authorized repair people, two were out of business. The only one available to do the repair had a thick Russian accent and CHUCKLED as he told me it was a $950 flat rate fix fee. I live in greater Seattle. You'd think there would be more than 1 repair person up here?

I am thinking Price Fixing. I'm thinking it's Illegal. I am also thinking I'm NEVER buying LG again, in any capacity.

Our LG is a mess too!!
by: lynne ridgway

We have a three year old french door LG fridge with a Freon leak.

We used the certified LG repairman and was told it needed a compressor. So we paid the $800 labor, (part covered under warranty) to find out a month later the refrigerant leaked out again.

At this point I'm assuming it never needed a compressor and that I'm out of luck and out of a refrigerator!

I've contacted LG numerous times for their help but they are worthless.

LG French door refrigerator
by: JC

LG French door fridge purchased 3 yrs ago from Home Depot not cooling.

I have a 5 yr extended warranty.

The technician arrived 3 days later said it was the compressor. The part was on back order for 4 weeks and finally arrived.

Upon installation of new compressor I was told the refrigerator coolant had leaked out. Technician said we left the refrigerator plugged in causing the coolant line to fail.

HUH?

Of course it was plugged in -- it took 4 weeks to get the dang part.

1. What were we supposed to do without a fridge for 4 weeks?

2. Secondly, if this was an issue, why didn't the technician let us know that this could happen and warn us about it?

Now the warranty company nor LG will give us any consideration.

The fridge is not repairable.

Why do companies keeping selling this junk?

After just out of 7 years LG warranty my LG refrigerator is not cooling.

At this point I'm living out of cooler. You guys it looks like new but it doesn't work at all.

I hate throwing money away like that!

LG french door compressor leak
by: Anonymous

I have had my fridge since Nov 2014. Had 3 service calls in the first 14 months and this past month it just stopped working. I know LG customer service does not care one bit. Worked so hard to pay that fridge off and end up with a fridge for just shy of 3 years. Going to buy a new fridge from someone local that I can trust and definitely never purchase another LG product again. Was told the compressor is leaking and no guarantee from service repair that it won't happen again. Looking at a 500-600 dollar repair. Makes me sick. If there is any information on law suit I would love some sort of resolution but not hopeful. Shame on them.

SAME ISSUES
by: Sheraine A

I have the same issues with the LG French door as others have posted. In my case, I had taken out a 3 yr extended warranty after the first one year warranty expired. Had few issues during that time....decided not spend another $300+ on another warranty and sure enough, I had a break down...no cooling issue. I had to take out a 90 day warranty for over $300 to pay for labor for the compressor that was under warranty. A third party (General Appliance) made the repair and the tech left a loose wire so the freezer did not work after the compressor was installed. After many angry calls, emails, etc. I had my electric company's tech re-connect the loose wire and the fridge/freezer was ok...summer brought ice build up on the one side of the drawers....then the freezer was not cold enough and the ice maker didn't work. I called the electric company warranty service and the tech said I had a freon leak. He couldn't do much because the compressor was still under warranty. I called LG again and was told I need to pay $300 again for labor! I am so angry! Upon further research I disovered that the replacement compressor was not soldiered properly and that's why I have a leak of freon. LG is scheduled to come tomorrow, I do not want to pay again for a tech error. I have so much proof that this fridge was a lemon!

LG French Door refrigerator is dead after 2y 10m
by: Dmitry

I have pretty much the same story as the most people in this section. LG model LFXS29766S bought for $2300, after 2 years and 10 months stopped cooling: the refrigerant leak. I managed to get a technician on site recommended by LG and he figured out the problem but he is not authorized to do a repair (very nice). Overall customer support in LG in none existent. Somehow they decided that their function is to give you a phone number of the repair shop and you are supposed to do the rest. Called 3 companies they recommended only one of them agreed to help but said right away that it will take 2 months and $500-$750 for labor to put a new compressor plus usually it takes another month to get a compressor from LG. I have zero hopes that they are able to fix anything within a month or so. I will buy a different brand during the weekend.
It looks like LG is begging for a lawsuit.

by: Anonymous

We purchased an LG French Door/Bottom Freezer about 6 years ago and just stopped working. Like everyone else on this post, it stopped cooling. My husband called LG and spoke to customer service rep. If we wanted to, they can send a service tech out to check the problem... of course, it comes with a price of $350. WE told them no thank you! My husband went to Frye's Electronics which is where we bought the fridge from. They told him that it could be the freon/compressor. Now he's at Lowe's to see if he can buy the parts cause Frye's does not carry any LG parts. What a joke!!! This has caused us a lot of grief the last 4 days... We're living in a cooler like everyone else. Lesson learned... never buying another LG product. If there is a class action suit, I'M IN!!!

LG Compressor - New Class Action Suit?
by: Barbara

My LG LFX28968ST stopped cooling last Friday. Today, one week later, I am still trying to get a certified LG technician to look at it. This morning I had an uncertified technician look at it and he said that it is leaking freon and the compressor has stopped working. I advised LG customer service and they want me to wait until next week for a certified technician from 50 miles away evaluates the problem. From other posts, it looks as if I'm wasting my time and money. The compressors are on back order and may or may not solve the problem.

If there is another class action law suit, I would gladly join. How to find out if there is another law suit?

Don't Buy an LG Refrigerator !
by: Don C

I purchased Kenmore Elite bottom freezer french door refrigerator a little over 2 years ago for $2500.After six months it stopped cooling properly. It was under manufacturer warranty. A tech came out and ordered a new mother board and rear fan panel. Ice had built up on coils. Fridge okay for a year and then started making fan noise. Read on line to tilt fridge back 1/4 inch. Noise stopped. 9 mos later it stopped cooling. I checked and there was no ice build up. I called a local repairman. He said to take it to the dump and don't waste money on trying to get it repaired. He said most repairmen will not work on LG and Samsung refrigerators. I am pretty sure it is probably a sealed system freon leak. I just bought a new side by side GE fridge for $1100 with a 5 yr warranty for $129 of which 1/2 is refunded if you don't use it in 5 yrs.The appliance company I purchased it from said they stopped carrying LG appliances because there were so many problems. I hope there is a lawsuit.

LG fridge leaking freon
by: steve

Same experience with LG BAD BAD service, never buy another LG product again ! Called many times, sent a technician out who said freon was leaking, cannot be fixed, called LG and they said technician was not LG certified (even tho they sent him out) The cost was $450 to coverage, its a SCAM

Feeling your pain
by: Anonymous

Started my claim the beginning of June 2017 just before the warranty expired, I've had the LG LFX28978ST for 5 years. It is now 20 days past expiration and I'm living out of a cooler. The first "warranty repair" person they sent out didn't have a thermometer to check the fridge/freezer temp and didn't understand that -6 is colder than 0?!? I cancelled my service warranty contract because the repair technicians were useless. I called my own repair guy who determined that it was losing Freon, but he doesn't do that type of repair. I went back to the LG website and found another LG repair person who told me that he also doesn't do that repair because it takes special equipment. I've called back LG Customer Support and have added to the original claim which has been escalated (?)and I am told I'll have a determination in 2-5 days?! So I'm living out of a cooler at the moment. From the other posts I can tell that I'll probably be purchasing a new fridge in the near future. I'll be looking into how to start a class action lawsuit because my sister-in-law also bought one of these refrigerators two years ago. FRUSTRATING!!

Horrible customer service and warranty
by: Anonymous

6 years in and my refrigerator is a $2,400 paper weight, due to a compressor that failed. Customer service and non-existent. Will be switching to a different brand. My time is worth more then trying to communicate with out sourced, over seas customer service reps. I hope a class action lawsuit is created, all my receipts are saved.

Kenmore Elite (LG)
by: Anonymous

We have had our Kenmore Elite model 795.7248 bottom freezer refrigerator for 20 months. It was $3400 on sale from Sears. It has been 4 days with 4 separate companies coming out to figure out the problem. (Luckily we have our fridge covered under our home warranty so it's not all out of pocket!) Finally today we found out it is leaking freon. Sears is set to come out next week. After reading everyone's reviews on these Kenmore/LG fridges I'm so disgusted with their service and their products!!! I'm guessing we are going to have to get a new refrigerator after this which is such a shame that at $3400 fridge only lasted 20 months. That's pathetic.

LG WARRANTY IS A SCAM
by: Rodney

2 yr old LG French Door/Bottom Freezer quit cooling. Was talked into buying $375 warranty plan. They sent out a service tech who was not LG certified so he could not fix my fridge. He basically touched the back and said the compressor was out. It has now been 3 days and I have not been able to get anything done. They keep passing me around telling me they are looking for another service provider but will refund me my money minus the $100 for the service call bye the NON CERTIFIED LG serviceman they sent out. SCAM.

Kenmore is made by LG!!!
by: SharaB

What a joke!!! I paid 2,100 for a Kenmore Grab n Go refrigerator 2 years ago. It stopped cooling on Tuesday. Called a repairman he came out today and was told, You need a new refrigerator!!! I thought he was joking!! Nope, it has a freon leak and cannot be repaired!! I'm so made I cannot even see straight!! Kenmore you are a joke!!! Trying to figure out where to go from here.

Kenmore Elite French Door made by LG.. Bought 1 year ago.. suddenly it stopped cooling. First repair guy said it was compressor so they swapped it and refilled the freon.. it cooled for a week. Second guy said it was the mother board, so they swapped it.. it did not cool at all. Third repair guy said its probably a leak, he put freon in it and it worked for a week.. its currently out again and a tech is supposed to come out tomorrow for the fourth time. LG is a piece of shit, at least Sears is attempting to fix it but I have little hope it will ever be fixed for good.

Never buy LG please see below.
by: Anonymous

Four year old LG refrigerator quit cooling. Contacted LG and for $385 dollars to cover labor they would send a service tech out. Service tech basically felt the unit and determined the compressor was bad. They tried to order a compressor but it had to be backordered. LG contracts through a company called Assurant to cover the long term warranties on the sealed system and compressor. Now get this, because the compressor was on backorder it gives the right to Assurant to cancel the warranty repair or so said LG after many phone calls. Whats really sad is I had no trouble locating a compressor on line. They took $100 dollars out of the $385 for the so called service call and refunded me the balance and deemed the fridge non-repairable. These people have no idea if the compressor is bad or if a leak developed which possibly could be fixed. In my opinion it was going to cost them more than $385 so they found a way out. LG should be proud of the way they treat customers. Biggest scam since Bernie Madoff.

After 3 years my 2400 LG refrigerator stop cooling and LG sucks. They try and wear you down by prolonging the repair process and trying to get 365 dollars up front before the repair that is still under warranty. Do not fall for this scam....read the reviews.....LG is a HUGE RIPOFF!!!!!

Not Cooling
by: Vatsal

Bought my Sears Elite Refrigerator in 2011. 6 years and now its not cooling. The Sears Elite refrigerator is made by LG (french door with freezer on the bottom). The Sears tech came ($99 to diagnose) and pretty much indicated that freon is leaking and its not repairable. $400 to just find the leak and more likely the leak is in the cabinets which is not repairable. He mentioned that this is a known issue on the model, however there is no extended warranty or coverage. I think LG and Sears should recall this product or have the issue covered under warranty. Paid around $2000 and it last 6 years. Complete waste of money. Would NOT recommend purchasing LG Or Sears.

Broken Promises LG
by: Anonymous

My LG French doors with bottom freezer just stopped freezing due to a Freon leak. The repair man declared that it was unrepairable. I paid $220 for a 90 day warranty up front although it looks like the gas line refrigerant is under warranty for another two years. I purchased the LG from Home Depot 5 years ago. I made the initial call to LG 31 Mar 17. They initially told me that the repairman would see me on the 4th Apr but that was changed to the 5th of April. The repairman came and said he would send off his report because he told me it can not be repaired because of the way the pipes are laid out. I phoned on the 6th of Apr to see when I would get the RA authorization. The interface told me that it would take 2 to 3 days to have it reviewed. I phoned today on 11 April 17 and the interface told me that the repair contractor recommendation had been rejected so it sounds much like the others on this site. My plan of attack to go to the top with a letter and also to share my experience through Facebook about LG. I am also wondering if perhaps a group lawsuit against LG might be possible. They should not be allowed to treat customers like that and should honour their warranties. Let me know if you feel the same way.

French Door Freon Leak as well - 2 years old
by: JS

After paying 2 service men $65 and one $90 my LG LFX28968ST has been determined to have a freon leak. Won't keep anything cold. LG will pay for some parts but no labor. So now I have to decide do I pay LG 425 service agreement to repair or do I pay service man 450 and hope LG will pay for parts under waranty? Or do I just figure out where to dump this 1700 disaster and buy a new one? HELP not sure what to do

by: Zim

My LG fridge is just now 3 years old and having the same leak issue. Repair man wanted $320 to recharge freon. I balked at this thankfully after reading all these comments. Going to use Super Sealer to try and plug leak and recharge myself as that is what I have done with my kegerator. If that doesn't work I guess it's new fridge time. WHat a joke. This fridge cost me over $1800.

LG Model LFC21776ST COMPRESSOR Failure
by: from Virginia

I purchased a French Door counter depth LG refrigerator (Model LFC21776ST)on 01/31/2013. The compressor failed on 02/27/17.

Labor cost to repair was $399. Compressor was under warranty.

HOWEVER, LG tech told me that the new compressor is only warranted for THREE MONTHS.

Will never buy another LG product again.

LFX28968ST Less than 2 yrs, ISSUES!
by: Anonymous

My french door LFX28968ST was repaired under warranty within first year, but it took MANY calls to convince them I had an issue which was NOT user error. Now we have a large leak from the ice maker/dispenser area which then leaks behind into freezer fan and compressor as well as bottom of the freezer- everything freezes up, and the fridge stops working.

Ok, thaw it all out, and the issue of leaking comes back immediately! Local repair company couldn't fix it!

Therefore, YES, LG french door fridge is NOT recommended!

Freon leaking from LMX3099SST
by: Anonymous

I noticed that my refrigerator started no cooling in late December. This is a practically brand new refrigerator purchased on 5/19/14. I have had 2 technicians to come out and look at it, you know second opinion, and they both came back with the same diagnostics' freon leak'. i lost all the food in the now useless box, which was a lot since this was short after Christmas and I entertained. When I called LG they were more than willing to come out and fix it if I purchased a warranty package. Which i had to do since I NEED a refrigerator. But honestly after researching this seems to be a common issue with different models. I think there should be a recall on this product and they should fix this issue FREE of change. NEVER in my time of purchasing major appliances have I ever had this problem with a refrigerator this early. In fact I have a refrigerator that is 15 years old and never had a probably with it. I will say that i am VERY disappointed that LG is insisting that people buy there warranty for something that should not be happening this early in the game. Hopefully it can be fixed, but i will keep you posted.

Freon leaking LFC25576ST
by: Anonymous

Brought my LG refrigerator in 9/26/10. I had it repaired 4 times by the LG service technicians. On 8/3/12 The technician told me they didn't put any freon in the refrigerator at the manufacturer. Well it now 1/16/17, 6 years and three months and out of warranty. I called an appliance tech to take a look at it because my freezer was not getting cold and all my food thawed. Well he tells me my Freon is almost gone and it's non repairable😡. Needless to say I will start a class action lawsuit against LG if my fridge isn't replace.

Freon Leaking
by: Anonymous

My Fridge is about 2.5 years old. It is diagnosis with Freon Leaking. The tech said it could cost $800 for repairing and not sure they could fix it after all. It is pain in the ass when you have a $2000 fridge that breaks on you on a such early age. And the manufacturer could get away from this so easy. It should be a major flaw in the design and had been call by now.

by: Anonymous

Please, Please save your money and do not buy this fridge. Our Kenmore Elite french door, bottom freezer fridge is 4 years old and has the same freon leak problem. At least $1500 to fix and who is to say it wont happen again? Two years ago we had a different problem with the same fridge that was fixed by Sears because the fridge is covered under a class action lawsuit (Clark vs LG). The Freon leak (which leads to compressor death) is not covered by this class action lawsuit. I think we need another lawsuit against LG. Sears should be ashamed for selling this piece of junk. According to Sears Service Department, you have to pay for a repair person visit before you can register a complaint about this fridge with them. It takes 10 days for a repair person to come. They will not accept a report from a non-Sears repair person. With such poor products and approach to customer service I will never buy from Sears again

LG LFX25978ST Sealed System

Purchased on 7/5/2014 and RIP on 10/20/2016. I had a local appliance tech to check and was diagnosed with sealed system problem. $1800 worth piece of junk!! Even with 7 year warranty for the sealed system, I decided not to waste another penny on this POS LG especially reading all the complaints dealing with LG warranty. Hopefully my new Whirlpool fridge will last longer than the crappy LG!! NEVER EVER LG!!!! Life is NO Good!!

Freon Leak
by: Anonymous

My LG LFC25776ST was just diagnosed with a Freon leak. The LG tech stated that this a common issue since the are made in South Korea (where the metal isn't as durable as here). Coming back next week try to find the leak maybe fixable but if the leak is inside the walls of the fridge not repairable. Only had for 5 years. I don't remember as a kid my parents putting Freon in the fridge to keep it running.

LG LFC25776ST leaking refrigerant after 3 yrs
by: In Seattle

Our 3 year old LG french door fridge was just diagnosed with a refrigerant leak. I had called for an LG authorized repair shop to come check it out but they were booked out over 1 month and wouldn't even take anymore appointments. That's pretty telling of their company's poor performing products. The repair man advised us that it would make more sense to buy a new fridge rather than spend the money on repairing this LG one. Our 20 year old GE fridge in the garage is still running great. Never buying LG again!!!

We have the LFX25973ST model with french doors. WE can try to repair for about 200 bucks but the repair man said it will just leak out again in a month then we'll still have to buy a new fridge! What the hell my Mom had a fridge that lasted 20 years this is crap!

After 5 years almost to the date of purchase, the refrigerator is not cooling. We called LG and they said that there wasn't any LG technicians in the area so they recommended us to another appliance repair company. They came out and said that we have an internal freon leak and that he would not recommend repairing. He suggested that we call LG again. We called and now there is an LG technician in our area coming tomorrow. It will be $325 to repair wth only 90 day warranty on the work. This should not be happening after only 5 years. My GE frig in the garage is 15 years with zero issues. I will NEVER buy LG again.

LG Refrigerator LFX28977ST101
by: Nancy Black

I bought this LG refrigerator in Dec thinking I would have ice for the holidays. After three attempts and new ice maker installed it was only going to make enough to fill three glasses with ice. So I had to go out a buy an ice maker.

Now after 7 years repairmen tells me yesterday that it is leak in freon sealed system inside liner and was not repairable. He said if he put freon in it it would leak out again and the same problem would arise. My ice is still making and the freezer part is still cold for now. Had to clean out the inside losing all my food because too warm inside. I have a refrigerator in my garage that is over 30 years old and still keeping things cold. I guess the days of keeping expensive refrigerators ($3000.00) is gone forever. Amazing that companies aren't held accountable for inferior products. I join the rest of the complaints will not buy another LG refrigerator. It looks good with the French Doors and wide space with not worth the money.

Same problem at 4 yrs. so expensive to fix we went out and bought a new GE. I will never recommend LG. We have fixed this 4 times. All different problems. Terrible appliance. Manufacturing in such a way it is very expensive to get into the cavity of the fridge. Made in China of course.

That's funny, my LG refrigerator, nice double door stainless steel refrigerator, working for 4 years now, same problem. 8 months ago it was a leak in the sealed system that was spot welded, then a circuit board went out which had to be replaced. Now I have another sealed system leak! LG refrigerators are junk! Fortunately I have a home warranty and they are going to have to replace the refrigerator. What a shame.

4 year old LG fridge with freon leak
by: Anonymous

Guess I'm not alone. My 4 year olf LG fridge just stopped cooling one day and LG customer service is pretty much useless. A repair man came out, recharged the freon and says we have to wait. Wait for what? Obviously it's going to leak out again! Should I just not buy groceries because I know they are going to go bad when the fridge heats up again? The repair man says I should probably have a back up fridge. I paid over $2k for this fridge! I shouldn't need a back up! I will never buy another LG as long as I live and so help me, no one I know will buy one either.

Me too, sealed system leak...
by: RobertOscar

Happy fourth Birthday refrigerator, what do you want to do now? Did you say QUIT? I thought so. Kenmore Elite french door fridge, made by LG just turned four and died. Sears is determined to fix it, though their own technicians say they do not see where the leak is and just keep replacing parts. Two month without a fridge, the first repair lasting less than two weeks, the second less than two days and the third less than two hours all under warranty. I have had a new compressor, 2 driers, an evaporator and condenser coil plus three charges of coolant, and they still have not thrown in the towel. The techs seem to think the leak is in the case itself, meaning the unit is done! So why are we still wasting money on this? This is apparently a typical issue with a certain group of these models, why waste the money? All the labor and materials at this point must exceed the cost of a new machine and over two months without refrigeration, not acceptable, but nobody cares.

UPDATE on Original Post
by: Anonymous

The fridge is keeping temperature very well since the line was cut.

During very humid and rainy days, the condensation on the outside of the fridge increases. Sometimes so much so that overnight, the water makes it to the floor and there's more wiping up involved. There is also a lot of condensation on the inner sides of the french doors. I keep a cloth handy to wipe every day.

One other side effect, the fridge is now loud! Before I hardly knew it was running. I used to have to stop and really listen. Not any more. It really bothers me but I suppose better to run out this (ultimately) bad investment than to have to throw it out.

Yesterday a friend of mine was discussing her remodel and I warned her off LG fridges. That's as much as I can do at this point.

23.2.2016
My fridge was 4 years 11 months old when the issue started. It's now 5 years one month old. French door MODEL LFX28978ST/00. I live in the Caribbean where our fridges work hard all day every day all year.

The repairman (not LG - out of warranty) came and said that he thought he knew what the issue was because he had seen it in many LG fridges. He topped up the freon, things started cooling and he went away. Came back a week later and once again the fridge was not up to temperature. Long story short - there was another break to try to be sure - he topped up the freon again and then soldered the line taking freon from the compressor to warm the doors of the fridge.

He did that a few days ago. I now get condensation on the outside of the fridge just next to the left french door but strangely enough not the other door. My repairman assured me that that should be the only consequence of his fix. He's done it many times (sadly).

So far everything seems up to temperature. I hope it sticks. This fridge was not cheap (though, it appears, conversely mayhaps cheaply built!) I will update this post in a few weeks. I hope this helps someone. I too am very disappointed in LG. This was my first fridge by them and the last.

Sealed System Failure LG french door bottom freezer.
by: Ed

Sadly the same issue - purchased extended warranty - expired 3 months ago.

Originally purchased because of "a great warranty" according to the Sears sales person - 7 years in sealed system and 10 on the compressor - "Great" I thought.

Called LG - they said "Yep under warranty - EXCEPT LABOR" - Well - that labor is $425 to fix a warranty repair on their "Sealed" System.
This was a $2,600 fridge.

Debating what to do now.

1 yr and 2months, leaking and unrepairable
by: AliM

My LG LFC227700 SW stopped keeping temp 4 days ago. Had the LG repair guy here (for their LG "flat rate" for repair and parts) and he said he couldn't repair it. He thought that LG might exchange or do a factory repair but that I have to call them once he submits paperwork. Based on comments above, not looking forward to the process of hopefully (but not likely from the above accounts) getting an exchange or repair. uuugh. This fridge just about broke the bank in the first place, and replaced a 15yr + fridge. Shouldn't it last longer than 14 months???!!!

This is an ongoing trend
by: Anonymous

This is an ongoing trend. Unfortunately I have encountered a leak inside my refrigerator between LG and Best Buy after nine conversations they sent someone out and told me my refrigerator was unrepairable there was a leak coming out of the back of the refrigerator they offered me $300 for a $3000 refrigerator and as I laughed I thought if I could fix this thing I would let them know it after a few hours I open up the back of the refrigerator and found a broken Copperline inside the refrigerator their technicians said it was unrepairable I'm unqualified how good I fix this I don't know Word to the wise lives good laughing is good life is good for somebody else while they're laughing at us.

another one with a 3 year leak
by: Anonymous

Wow, I just read all the other comments and my 3 year old fridge just joined everyone else's. Shame on LG for not doing a recall like the auto companies have to do. The repairman just told us that it could cost over $1000.00 if it was repairable. Pretty sad huh? I had the extended warranty but it only lasts for 3 years, just short of the life expectancy of this refrigerator! What a coincidence....

Freon leak in Frigidaire Gallery
by: Anonymous

Same thing has happened to me but with a French Door Fridgidaire Gallery only 3 years old. Was told by Sears tech it's got a freon leak and can't be repaired. I to don't have the extended warranty so Frigidaire won't do anything. My husband won't take no for an answer and won't spend another dime to get it fixed or replace it. What happened to quality with today's appliances? How do we as consumers hold them accountable. Doesn't seem like going through consumer reports even helps.

Under 4 Years olds
by: Anonymous

I guess I'm not alone, 4 year old Kenmore (built by LG)leaked the freon from the refrigerator cabinet and cannot be fixed. I agree high cost appliances should last at LEAST 10 years.
LG/Kenmore I say no more...

3 year old fridge

Same issue, Freon leaks. LG asked me to contact its service center. The service center won't take anyone else's check. Almost like a doctor's office.

freon leak unrepairable
by: Anonymous

This happened to me also. I have a Kenmore 3 1,2 year old refrigerator that is deemed unrepairable due to a Freon leak. Glad to know it is probably LG since unbelievably I'm shopping for a new refrigerator after 3 years. I'm going to contact Consumer reports

3.5 years for my LG as well
by: Anonymous

I was hoping to find some fix online that the Sears repair people just didn't understand...only to find so many others with the EXACT same issue mine has. The idea in doing the research, and spending the money, on a supposedly excellent appliance, is so this stuff doesn't happen, or can actually be serviced!

No freon
by: Anonymous

Repairman just left Same story!! Not fixable sealed freon location not access able He said LG has blown in insulation between compressor and freon lines. Over time vibration of compressor against insulation runs on freon lines causing a leak Now I have to wait 6-10 days to hear from extended warranty company (I don t usually buy it) and they usually send a check I bought this refrig on sale so I am already going to be in the hole But u can bet I will take the hit and Never buy a LG product again To begin with I bought it in December and delivery (do to shipping) never happened til March Do u know the saying (Fool me once shame on u Fool me twice shame on me) That Won t Be Happening!!!!!!

Freon Leak 3 1/2 yr $3000 LG Frig
by: Heather

Wow, I was shocked to read all the reviews and complaints about the same issue I am currently going through. Purchased refrigerator from Sears Kenmore and called for repair due to not cooling properly. First I was told compressor which was replaced 6 months ago. Frig started acting up again and now I am being told Freon leak and can't be fixed because the Freon pathway is sealed so frig is un-repairable. Repair man told me that the manufacturer is actually LG. Special serial codes indicate who actually manufactured. I believe that LG has a manufacturing default if there are this many complaints. HVAC specialist said the Freon should never leak, hence sealed enclosure, in the newer frigs. I don't understand why LG is not doing anything about this problem. I am out to fight with anyone and everyone I have to in order to get to the bottom of this issue. LG is not taking care of their consumers. At least find out why these frigs are leaking, which seems to be averaging, 3 years after use. Too many coincidences.

Had the same exact experience. I have decided I am never going to buy another LG product in my life time or let my friends buy it . Worst customer service and the worst product

Sealed system leak
by: Anonymous

I had my appliance repair friend check my LG # 25776st fridge, lost freezer within two days only 3 1/2 years old. Looks like you need to get extended plan with these things, what a scam. He said it was a sealed system leak, most likely evaporates went south. What the hell" these things should at least last 10years.

Freon lrak
by: Sheri reiman estes

This appears to be a DESIGN FLAW in FRENCH door units
Same thing just happened to us. With same age unit.
LG needs to step up to the plate and recall these units.
We need to CONTACT Consumer Reports and perhaps
An investgative reporter. !
