• The QuietSeries™ 200 sound package worked much better on this unit than on others we've tested (where noise was a problem)

• The Elevator™ shelf which rolls up and down to accommodate tall items is one of our favorite Maytag features. If only it was in more of their models!

• This particular model also had the widest available shelf space available in a traditional side-by-side.

The Tilt Down Wire Freezer baskets seemed to "freeze" and it made it difficult for us to access products in these bins.

OVERALL: One of the benefits of Maytag being a part of the Whirlpool family, is that they can blend the best of all worlds into a single refrigerator model. This is one of the most affordable in this class and the feature list is as long as Billy the Kid's rap sheet!

PROS: Here are a few of the things we thought made this refrigerator worth looking at:

• The electronic cubed/crushed ice and water dispenser also has a water filter change reminder and lock.

• The Radius Styling gives this Maytag refrigerator a smooth design for an added touch of style.

• The Textured doors and cabinet minimize fingerprints.

• The top to floor foam insulation on this unit makes it extremely energy efficient and it's also ENERGY STAR qualified which means it exceeds federal energy efficiency standards by 15%. As you are aware that will decrease your energy bills but you may also be surprised to know that buying an Energy Star refrigerator entitles you to an Energy Star Rebate.

• This unit also has the Adjustable Spill-Catcher™ shelves which has the sealed edges that help contain spills for quick and easy cleanup.

• The EasyGlide™ shelves glide out so items in the back can be retrieved easily.

CONS: The ice maker in this unit was also a bit slow. We found this pretty much across the board with the Maytag models.

OVERALL: This is one of the few Maytag refrigerator models that Consumer Reports rated quite highly on their list. We have to agree; it's a solid side by side refrigerator model and definitely one to consider.

PROS: While this model contained many of the regular features, here's a few other ones that caught our eye:

• One fun feature was the Refrigerator Pak beverage organizer which securely holds most 12-pack beverage boxes for easy dispensing.

• The Sealed FreshLock Crisper drawer was one of the best in this class at keeping food fresher longer.

• It also has Beverage Chiller™ compartment which keeps drinks colder than the rest of the refrigerator.

• The Adjustable Spill-Catcher™ shelves have sealed edges that contain spills for quick and easy cleanup.

CONS: The factory installed icemaker was just so-so at making ice and this fridge was a bit noisier than was expected.

Four Things to Consider

2. Style Choices: Maytag refrigerators are all in all well styled models that give any kitchen a decorative boost. But you need to consider what type of fridge will go best with your existing decor. Keep in mind that Maytag side by side refrigerators come in Stainless Steel, Black, White, and Bisque only. If you're looking for built in panels or more custom colors, you may want to consider refrigerators from Jenn Air or Kitchenaid instead.
