Kenmore Side-by-Side Refrigerator (model #106.53532300)

by TL
(Portland, OR)

When we bought this refrigerator, March 2004, replacing a Frigidaire that was working but all the shelves were broken and falling apart.

We had used it for 20 years and finally were able financially to replace it. I almost wish that I had that broken Fridge back.

From the beginning this one has run too cold. I had to turn it way down to prevent everything from freezing in the refrigerator compartment and the lettuce only lasted 24 hours because it always got frozen.

We just returned from a 2 1/2 week vacation to find the refrigerator not working. Everything in the freezer was thawed and there was a pool of water on the floor from all the melted ice that had been in the ice machine.

After reading other online comments and reviews about Whirlpool/Maytag/Kenmore refrigerators about the same age as mine, I don't know if I should bother having it repaired or just replace it with a different brand. I am concerned about all the reports of fires in these models.
