Is there a sensor on the compressor that kicks it off when the door is open for an extended perior of time

My question has more to do with whether or not there is a sensor in a refrigerator compressor that knows when a door is left open for too long and shuts it off.

When we moved our refrigerator from one location to another, we removed the doors. Once at the new location, we plugged it in and it ran just fine. Though the really odd thing was that while we were putting the doors back on, the compressor kicked off and would not come back on.

So is there a sensor that kicks off the compressor when the door is open for an extended period? Or do we just really need to get a new refrigerator?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
