Is it safe to eat food from a refrigerator that was painted on the inside?

My landlord replaced my nice fridge with one that is clearly painted inside and out, it reeks of fumes when you walk in the apartment and you can see white paint specks on the glass shelf and it comes off on your fingers when you wipe it on the plastic in the freezer!

Is it safe to have food in a painted refrigerator!?

BTW the only thing that was wrong with my other one was the thermostat switch!! (cheap guy!)

I don't know what kind of paint was used and I am worried to use it. Please let me know if I have any right to tell him he has to replace it with a usable refrigerator.
