Is 8 Years in a Garage too Long for a Fridge?

by Julie
(San Francisco, CA)

Can you use a refrigerator if it has been sitting in a garage for 8 years? It was three years old before we put it in the garage and has been sitting there since.

Probably...

It might still work but you're going to first have to clean it both inside and out. Make sure the coils are perfectly clean.

Then I'd recommend you try to plug it in before moving it in the house to see if it still works.

But before you do, remember that refrigerators that were made 8-10 years ago use a great deal more energy than a refrigerator built today. Probably around 50% more. In the end you could buy a new refrigerator with the money you could save in energy bills.
