Can you lay down a dorm refrigerator?

When transporting a dorm refrigerator can you lay it down anyway? We have a truck with a cover but aren't sure if we can lay it down sideways.

Don't plug it back in right away...
by: Anonymous

When I loaded a new dorm refrigerator on its side in my car, the Best Buy salesman told me not to plug it in until after the refrigerator has been upright for several hours or, preferably, overnight.

He said that all the oil needs to drain back to where it belongs. Otherwise, the compressor could burn up.

I wouldn't...
by: Joan

We just moved my daughter to her dorm last week and when we put hers on it's side it really seemed to have trouble starting up again. We heard something about an issue with oil moving somewhere it shouldn't.

Do it at your own risk.
